fifth sunday in ordinary time / 50 domingo del tiempo ordinario 3

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima,I am away this week for a retreat with the Neo-catechumenate in what is called an Itinerant Convivance. I will arrive home Monday night and will be in the office on Tuesday morning. This weekend I would like to thank Fathers Mario Juarez and Christopher Heath who helped Father William by celebrating Mass. This Sunday, the readings’ central theme is divine call and human response. They teach us that Christian spirituality is discipleship,

which means a positive response to God’s call. Father Richard Rohr, OFM once said that there is not a vocation crisis in our country but a response crisis. God speaks to the human heart, inviting his be-loved people into a personal and committed relationship with him. However, with the many demands and distractions in our lives, passively we say “no” to his invitation. Today’s readings are epiphany-call stories which tell us that God has His own criteria for selecting people to be prophets, apostles, disciples and ministers. In the special calls, or vocations, of Isaiah, Saint Paul and Saint Peter and their life-changing events, the readings challenge us to examine our own personal call to conversion and discipleship. This coming Wednesday is the beginning of Lent, where we are invited to be especially attentive to how God calls us within our hearts to conversion and discipleship.
