The Community Room located in the Sales Office has provided an interim community facility but on completion, the Resource Centre will provide permanent local community facilities.

Parks

Landscaping to the second dog off leash area is complete and was opened to the public recently. Located in the green link between Tranche 6 and Tranche 30, this facility has separate areas for little dogs and big dogs with a number of pieces of dog play equipment provided. Also provided within the area are shelters and seats so please come down and check the space out.

Earthworks to the building pad for the Youth and Recreation building, located on Peter Brock Drive recently commenced. These are getting the site ready for building works to commence in the second half of this year.

A new section of open space is nearing completion along the Kolombo Creek riparian corridor adjacent to Tranche 31 Stage 3 and will be open end April/

early May. The open space includes seating, walking paths and a fitness station. Bush regeneration will continue in this area until the end of the year but won’t impact on residents using the space.

Final embellishment works will be carried out soon to Kolombo Reserve around the water detention basin. This will involve the removal of existing vegetation and re-planting with appropriate species.

Roads

Significant progress has been made on the construction of Podium Way Bridge, which when complete will link the school to Oran Park Drive. The precast bridge piles have been installed to both sides of the bridge. Abutment retaining walls have been completed and creek rock walls completed. Installation of the bridge deck occurred recently with the planks being craned into position. Landscaping works to the underside of the bridge have also started with rock walls installed and the area being prepared for footpaths and planting.

Plans are being finalised for the bridge on Dick Johnson Drive near Brabham Reserve which will provide another connection into the town centre. Pending approvals, work is expected to be completed by the end of year.

Construction Update

Construction to the medium density site within Tranche 7, located adjacent to Oran Park Public School, is complete and the land will be registered shortly. Construction of the first terrace homes within this stage has also commenced. Over the coming months you will see the building activity within this area increase significantly.

Works to the site located at the corner of Peter Brock Drive and South Circuit Tranche 9, continue to progress. To date, all of the bulk earthworks are complete and installation of sewer and water has commenced. Surrounding residents may have noticed the closure of Searle Way. This was required to allow the construction of the internal roads for this stage. Every effort will be made to reduce the impact on residents. If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact the sales office.

With cooler temperatures just around the corner, it’s a timely reminder to prepare for the flu season.

The annual seasonal influenza vaccination is recommended for any person aged 6 months and over who want to reduce the likelihood of becoming ill with the flu.

Under the National Immunisation Program, people over the aged of 65 years, pregnant women, most Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and those who suffer from chronic conditions are eligible for a free flu shot as well as children aged 6 months to under 5 years.

For more information, talk to your GP.

Whooping Cough Vaccine for

Pregnant Women

Whooping cough is a highly infectious bacterial disease that causes severe bouts of coughing. In adults, the symptoms can be mild, but if the infection is spread to a baby who is not yet vaccinated, it can be life threatening.

Studies have found that whooping cough vaccination during pregnancy is safe and effective for both the mother and baby.

Vaccination during pregnancy means your body produces antibodies that get

passed on to your baby before birth. These antibodies will protect your baby until they are ready to receive their own vaccinations at 6 weeks of age.

If you are planning a pregnancy or already pregnant and want to find out more, talk to your doctor about getting the free vaccine.

Say No to Bullying!

Bullying can happen anywhere, including at school, at work, online or via text messages or email.

Bullying is when people use words or actions repeatedly against an individual or a group, causing distress and risk to their wellbeing. Bullies are usually in a position of power or influence over the

person they bully. They usually want to make the person feel less powerful or helpless.

If bullying is not challenged and stopped, it can contribute to a culture where bullying is tolerated, and everyone feels powerless to stop it.

If you’re being bullied, Police are urging you to report it because bullying is just not acceptable, not now, not ever.

Remember you have a right to feel safe and be treated with fairness and respect.

The Australian Media and Communications Authority also have an excellent website which carries advice for children and parents www.cybersmart.gov.au. Another website with useful information is www.bullyingnoway.gov.au
