JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH From the Pastor’s Laptop Father Mark Wagner May 1, is the traditional feast day of St. Joseph the Worker, and today we pray in particular for men, that they will be good workers, good husbands and good fathers of families. We pray also for the success of the June 11 “Central Valley Men’s Conference,” which will help strengthen the faith of the men of St. Joseph’s! Today’s second reading is about a great marriage that is described at the end of the Bible (Rev. 21:10-14, 22-23). It speaks of the heavenly vision of the “New Jerusalem” where the saints will dwell in heaven. Unfortunately, the reading that we hear at Mass begins with verse ten, omitting verse nine, which would help us to better understand the context and the profound meaning of this great final vision of the Bible. Verse nine says: “One of the seven angels… said to me, ‘Come here. I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.’” Verse ten begins to describe the vision of the “bride”: “The angel took me in spirit to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem…” The rest of the reading describes the beauty of this city which is “the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” This city represents the Church and all the souls of the saints. God is so in love with us that He calls us His bride! God loves us! He loves our city. His heart is moved when He looks at the neighborhoods and the homes where we dwell. He loves to gaze on us in the Church where we gather as His people, showing how God loves His Church as a husband loves his bride. Some times the people who suffer the most are the ones that suffer in silence. Be a friend to someone and show concern for their well being. Try to always be a comforting Light of Jesus in the world.

Step in when you see someone being degraded or bullied, and put a stop to it. You can change the course of someone’s life with a simple act of Mercy.

Don’t ignore people; try to be that person who listens when someone

is talking to you about their concerns.

Actions for this month:

It’s a simple concept. Baby bottles filled with coins. That’s the Baby Bottle Campaign. But this simple concept yields impressive results. This change adds

up, and truly changes lives. Through hosting a Baby Bottle Campaign and partnering with Modesto Pregnancy Center, you allow us to continue being

dedicated to protecting the unborn, and providing for those facing an unplanned pregnancy, as well as the many other services we offer.

Regina Caeli During the Easter season (until Pentecost, May 15), Catholics pray the following prayer instead of the

Angelus (at 6am, Noon and 6pm): V. Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia. R. For He whom you did merit to bear, alleluia. V. Has risen, as he said, alleluia. R. Pray for us to God, alleluia. V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. R. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia. Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

worked for many years as a Physician’s Assistant, or PA, in local emergency rooms. Her calm, positive demeanor must have brought peace and hope to those who were suffering with critical health issues.

In the same way, she brings her spirituality as a Lay Dominican to her current leadership role at St. Joseph’s as the Children’s Liturgy of the Word leader for the 10:30 Mass. Following a series of meetings regarding the shortage of adult volunteers, the decision was made to temporarily halt the CLOW program for both the 10:30 and 1:30 Spanish Masses.

Many children expressed their disappointment that the “school” they go to during Mass was no longer meeting. In an effort to invite more parents and other adults/older teens to serve, there will be a recruitment in the next two months for all those interested in CLOW remaining as an active ministry in the parish.

Mary is a “mighty Mary,” but she and Maria Lobato, the Spanish CLOW leader, need the village of St. Joseph’s to rally behind them.

“God bless you, Mary, for your

positive energy and willingness to steward and share

your gifts in CLOW. “

www.stjmod.com/psrRegistration.
