The LamplighterSteppingstone then works with each personaccording to their needs, to see they receiveeducation and develop life skills. They take themto job interviews, help them to budget, allow themto experience consequences of choices theymake, and seek to prepare them for life in theworld.

This objective in the best of circumstances isnot easy! But it can be accomplished through thelove of God seen through the actions of willinghearts and hands.

Sherry, the Girls' Unit Supervisor and a part ofSteppingstone for 19 years now, shared with ushow excited she was to see the donations madefor the apartment shower. There are so manyneeds for basics, as well as more specific items, and everything is used and greatly appreciated.Steppingstone did not receive the large monetarygrant that would have sustained many of theirneeds for the year, so monetary gifts, materialdonations, always prayers, and continuedsupport by organizations such as our Auxiliaryhelp tremendously. The Auxiliary has decided tomake a financial donation of $2000 in addition tothe $1000 we made in the spring. But these giftsare only possible through the continuing supportof our communities of faith.

Love is not a feeling; love is action. There areso many needs which surround us, and to whichZion UCC Mayview is a part. We can sometimesfeel overwhelmed by others' needs, when oftenwe struggle just to meet our own. That is whyprayer and our loving relationship with God, andallowing the movement of the Holy Spirit in ourlives is so important to guide us to where we canmake the most difference in our corporate as wellas individual efforts to love others in a meaningfulway. At the meeting, our hearts were so moved by

the continuing Cheer program which is sustainedby an 84-year-old, coupon-clipping, creative childof God who seems unstoppable! This is a definitecall on her life--to uplift the spirits of 50 youngpeople with little thisses and thatses throughoutthe year--she just bubbles with her quarterly

reports, showing us examples of her creativity--her love.

We serve a creative God, the true God of Love,Healing, Peace, Forgiveness, Generosity andHope. We are blessed to be a blessing! With love and hope in Christ,Pastor Kristin

    World Hunger DayOct. 16, 2013

Hunger is common in America, despite its image as

the land of plenty. For one in six people in the

United States, hunger is a reality. Many people

believe that the problems associated with hunger

are confined to small pockets of society, certain

areas of the country, or certain neighborhoods,

but the reality is much different. Hungry Ameri-

cans are often hard-working adults, children, or

seniors who simply cannot make ends meet and

are forced to go without food for several meals or

even days. Spend some time today reading about

hunger and what various organizations are doing

about it. Make a contribution or volunteer your

services at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter.

Pray for those who are starving and those who are

    living in food deprived households.

The LamplighterEXPRESSION SESSIONThank YousDear Sunday School Class,A challenging thought came to me through a friend

recently, perhaps you've heard it, too. "What if youwoke up tomorrow with only those things whichyou thanked God for today."I would have woke up

this morning with very little, I'm sad to say. I'm afraidI'm still more prone to complain than to thank, to ex-pect than to appreciate. Yet with this thought in mind, along with the Scripture ringing loud in my head,"Give thanks in all circumstances," I must be moreintentional about giving thanks.

So, I'll start with youtoday....THANK YOU for yourgenerosity toward these young lives, for reaching outto renew hope for a child, and for providing thehomes and families necessary for him to have anopportunity for a great future. Youngsters like Miguellwho just joined the family - he's so thankful to be

here!Your partnership in this mission is vital to its suc-cess. Thank you for the $85.00 contribution throughthe offering at Zion United Church of Christ - what adifference it makes in these young lives.Just in case the intriguing scenario was to occur, Isure wouldn't want to wake up tomorrow without youguys!

    Determined to Live Thankfully,

    Chad Puckett, Director

Butterfly Room3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am,there ye may be also.

GRIEF RECOVERY PROGRAMSimply defined, grief is the normal and

natural reaction to significant emotional loss of anykind. The range of emotions associated with grief areas varied as there are people and personalities. There is no list of feelings that would adequately de-

scribe one persons emotions, much less an entiresociety. While grief is normal and natural, most of the infor-mation passed on within our society about dealingwith grief is not normal, natural or helpful. The Grief Recovery Program creates the safety andteaches correct action choices that help peoplemove beyond the pain caused by loss.

The Grief Recovery Method Outreach Program, based on the The Grief Recovery Handbook, willguide those who wish to resolve their loss issuesand move beyond their grief to a richer quality of life.Date: Wednesdays Oct 2 Dec. 4, 2013Time: 5:30 7:00 PMAddress: Higginsville Senior Center101 W. 21st Street, Higginsville, Mo 64037Space is limited. October 4Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi

Saint Francis of Assisi (1182 - 1226) is probably the mostpopular Christian saint. His radiant spirit is a beacon forthose seeking a life of meaning and service. It does nogood to put him on a pedestal; rather we should walk

with St. Francis on the path of peace, openness, mysti-cism, poverty, reverence for nature, and love of ani-mals. There are plenty of spiritual resources on his re-markable life and his spiritual practices.

Here is one of the benedictions:

"Now, wherever we are,and in every place, and at every hour,

throughout each time of each day,may all of us honestly and humbly believe,

holding in our heartsto love, honor, adore, serve,

    praise, bless,glorify, exalt,

magnify, and give thanksto the Most High and Eternal God,

    Trinity and Unity.

    Amen."
