LETTER FROM THE PRODUCER
On behalf of the entire production team, welcome to the 16th annual productionof the Rotary Club of Lincoln Lamplighter Tour! The Lamplighter Tour is unique inthat it brings history to life in all corners of our community. Stories are toldthroughout the tours in an entertaining way which promotes the uniqueness ofour community. We as the Lamplighter team, have come to appreciate howwonderful this area is and how fortunate we are to live here!
It is our privilege and pleasure to work with an extraordinary team of actors, writers, directors and all other volunteers who have committed their time andefforts to make this show come to life each November.
Since its inception in 2004, the phenomenal success of the annual tour hasenabled the Rotary Club of Lincoln to contribute to major local communityprojects. Specifically, the funds raised from the Lamplighter Tour are dedicatedto building community through special projects that foster civic pride and enableadvancement of cultural and economic development in the Town of Lincoln.
Recently, Lincoln Rotary donated $100,000 to Cave Springs Camp, Legacy HallProject and issued a $25,000 matching donation challenge to the communityto help bring awareness of the project and generate additional funds.
We have had tremendous support throughout the community, from participants, sponsors and audience which we greatly appreciate. This allows us to doprojects like the one mentioned above.
Thank you all for making the Lamplighter Tour a legend in Lincoln.
Enjoy the Show!

In 1884 the land was purchased by Walter A. Russ, a local businessman, forthe price of $175.00. Mr. Russ later built this impressive home. This two storeybrick was one of the earliest homes to be built in this survey. Lower and upperverandas are located on the north west corner. They feature the original fretworkand railings. The front entrance features the original wood doors.
In 1889, Walter A. Russ sold the home to his wife Clara May Russ for the sumof $50.00. A fire at Cyrus Russ & Company liquidated his business, but his homewas saved from the debtors, because he had had the foresight to put it into hiswife’s name. The home has subsequently been sold several times and at onetime in the 1950’s was purchased by a nurse Elma Brown. Ms. Brown turnedthe structure into Brown’s Nursing Home where she practiced as a midwife andpeople who required nursing care. The Whittington family purchased the homein 1984 and have continued to restore it to its former glory.

BEAMSVILLE DISTRICT SECONDARY SCHOOL
As you stand on Ontario Street in Beamsville, and look eastward down MayStreet, you are struck by the beauty of the iconic building known as BeamsvilleDistrict Secondary School. The school was built in 1917 by noted architectWalter William LaChance. Architectural features include an elaborate frontentrance, which features 4 large lonic columns. The columns hold up asubstantial cornice and feature four Greek acroterions on the top of the pediment.Brick detailing can be seen throughout the façade of the building whichincorporates cut stone blocks and keystones.
In 2002 the building received a 6.5-million-dollar renovation. An additional frontentrance, restoration of the front steps and improvements to the generalinfrastructure were completed.
Enrolments in secondary schools across Niagara have been dropping over thepast few decades. In 2017, the District School Board of Niagara made thedecision to close three high schools, including this one. In the fall of 2017, theTown of Lincoln designated the original portion of the school as a historicbuilding, in order to preserve it from future development.
The Rotary Club of Lincoln engages our community to help work towards abetter tomorrow, locally and internationally. Our motto, Service Above Self, means something different to each of our members but fuels the fire forour club’s passion for bringing a caring world to life.
