$1,000 Needed for Medical Costs for SpecialNeeds WomanRequest from Pastor Matthew Gunia, Zion Lutheran Church,Lyons, Illinois and Faith Lutheran Church, Westchester,Illinois

I would like to request help for a community member that I amworking with who has some medical issues. She is 27 years oldand is a special needs person. She does not have healthinsurance and developed a yeast infection two months ago.The infection wasn't treated properly and ended up turning intoa kidney and bladder infection. She's been scraping up moneyand visiting the doctor and getting prescriptions here andthere, but because of the cost she hasn't been consistentenough so the infection has not cleared. She's lost quite a bitof weight.

She is in need of money to pay for her doctor visits and prescriptions to get the infectionknocked out or possibly a doctor who would be willing to treat her pro-bono.

She has had many challenges in her life and is very skeptical. She has a lot of troublebelieving that someone would actually help her without expecting something in return. She knows and trusts me, but is positive that any help she may get will have stringsattached. Any help would be such a blessing and such a witness to her about the Bodyof Christ.

Disasters Can Hit Anytime Anywhere, ThereforeLCC Will Continue To Offer CongregationalPreparedness Training

LCMS Human Care and World relief has put togetherthe training and tools needed for a congregation todevelop a plan for being prepared if a disaster hits. Notonly that - LCC and the District Disaster ResponseTeam are trained and willing to take your congregationthrough the plan. This takes about 3 hours with keyleaders of your church. Members of LCC and theDistrict Disaster Response team will continue to consult

with your congregation, helping you through each of the various aspects to have a planin place.

Congregational Preparedness Training (CPT) addresses questions like "Do we have acontingency plan in the event that the pastor becomes a victim of a disaster?" or "In theevent that a tornado is bearing down on our church on Sunday morning during worshipservice who should be the person to say we need to evacuate the sanctuary and whereis the safest place for all these people to go?"

Having recognized that God often uses disaster to open doors for his Church to doministry, participants address questions like "What are some ways that our congregationcan offer Christ's comfort to the community after a disaster?" or "What happens to thechurch budget - can designated funds be used in times of crises?" If you are interested in scheduling a CPT session, Click here to fill out the CPTinterest form.

If you are interested in scheduling a CPT session please contact Dianna Bonfield at 866-455-6466 or email [email protected]

Walcamp Needs Your Help!

Did you attend Walcamp when you were young? Do yourkids or grandkids attend Walcamp today? Whatever yourconnection, Walcamp Outdoor Ministries needs your help.

Each year, hundreds of children have the opportunity toexperience first hand the wonder of God's creation duringdays and nights at camp. They learn to track animals;

learn about the different stars and constellations; they even learn to paddle a canoe andshoot a bow and arrow! And don't forget the bonfires, the food and new friends! Formany of these children it may very well be their first time away from home, and theexperience is both emotional and spiritual.

In an effort to keep our rates affordable, andto ensure that every child can have thisexperience, Walcamp subsidizes $75 per childwho attends camp. That adds up over thecourse of a year, and today Walcamp is facinga big gap. "The letters we receive fromchildren and parents touch our hearts, and wetry to do so much. We offer scholarships tofamilies, but we still have to turn manychildren away," said Deon Hull, WalcampExecutive Director. "The economics of runninga camp is very real. And we simply cannotafford to help everyone."

Page 10: October 27, 2010 - Making A Difference Newsletter

Won't you consider a gift to Walcamp today? Let's ensure that children will continue toenjoy the activities and education available at Walcamp for years to come.

Looking for Ways to Share the Mercy andCompassion of Christ to Those in Your Churchand Community? We are in hard economic times. "Times are terrible" manysay. But just think what a blessing God has given us toshare the Mercy and Compassion of Christ! The door iswide open for the Church to be the Church. Jesus showedus by his life that we are to be the church that "Does Feet"(John 13).

People say that they would "do" evangelism, they would reach out to people in need, buttheir church simply does not have the money right now to do it, things are tight! DearChristian brothers and sisters, it doesn't take money to touch those in need and pain - ittakes you and your willingness to follow Jesus' example.

If you would like a staff member of LCC to come out and share ways for you and yourchurch to reach your members and community with the Mercy and Compassion of Christ- without money - contact us at 866-455-6466 or [email protected]. We would be more than happy to come andwork with you! By the way, we can even bring our K-9 Parish Comfort Dogs with us.This also will NOT cost you!

Motorcycles Needed to Help Pastors in HaitiSpread the Gospel

When Tim Hetzner traveled to Haiti in March 2010 hepurchased several motorcycles for the pastors to use fortransportation. Because of the terrible condition of the roads, motorcycles are the most efficient means of transportation formany of the pastors who must travel many miles between thedifferent churches that they serve and to get to their members.

More motorcycles are desperatelyneeded. A new motorcycle costs$1,000 and is an important tool thathelps the pastors to minister to theirmembers and spread the Gospelthroughout Haiti. Pictured are twopastors that have been helpedbecause of your support.

Malaria Initiative`Malaria Initiative' is a non-profit corporation formed by Susan Busse M.D., ThomasHesselink M.D., and John Peterson, to bring spiritual and medical treatment to thosesuffering from Malaria, working with Lutheran Church Charities.

A treatment of acidified sodium chlorite at a cost of lessthan $00.01 USD. per dose has proven to be verypromising in preliminary laboratory and field trials. Wehave been working in Uganda, Sierria Leone, Ethiopia, and Ghana to improve our working relationship in thesecountries to further the treatment of Malaria using thisparticular treatment. Our goal is to spread the Messageof Christ and bring a useful and inexpensive treatmentfor Malaria; Malaria being the number one infectiouskiller world wide.

We are currently working at gathering more scientificdata from sites that have Malaria patients, to track themalong with their progress, and to document the results ofthe treatments so we can publish in medical journals. We are supporting a PhD. student doing thesis work atWestern Michigan University on this promising

treatment.

Malaria Initiative is looking to get help financing the above stated goals so they maytravel to train personnel and fulfill all our commitments. The three principals have takenno payment for their services, all have volunteered their services and funded much of thecosts out of pocket along with donations from generous donors.

Tim's Pick of the Week

Outlive Your LifeBy Max Lucado

These are difficult days in our world's history. Billions of people arepoor; millions go hungry or thirsty every day. Disease claimsthousands of lives daily. But you and I have been given anopportunity to make a big difference. What if we did?

What if we rocked the world with hope? Infiltrated all corners withGod's love and life? We are created by a great God to do greatworks. He invites us to outlive our lives, not just in heaven but hereon earth. What if you lived in such a way that your death was justthe beginning of your life?

LCC Emergency Assistance Fund

LCC gets requests daily concerning people who needassistance, and it is increasing because of the current economictimes we are living in.

LCC works through our churches to provide assistance bymaking the need known - and dollar per dollar we give themoney to a church to help the family or individual. However, wereceive some requests that are emergencies, and money isneeded that day or the next day and we can't always get theneed out in our weekly email newsletter first.

Would you consider making a gift to our LCC EmergencyAssistance fund so that when these emergency needs occur we can help (through ourchurches) quicker? This is an important way for the Body of Christ to share the Mercyand Compassion and Proclamation of Christ.
