LCC's only appeal once a year to keep our doors open!

A Thanksgiving Thank YouHicham Chehab, POBLO-Chicago Missionary thanks LCC andAll Who Support the Arabic Outreach Ministry

Dear Friends at Lutheran Church Charities, This Thanksgiving marks the third anniversary of mymission in Chicagoland. Since my first meeting withLutheran Church Charities' President Tim Hetzner, almost three years ago, God has used LCC mightilyfor His Kingdom. One of the most important ofLCC's contributions to the mission is support inproviding and advertising the needs of the Arabcommunity. In coordination with LCC, POBLO-Chicago, assisted by a number of volunteers fromlocal congregations, has collected donations andhelped refugees get provisions, clothing, blankets, and furniture.

· Since the mission started, we have given out 150 pieces of furniture, 200 coatsand blankets, and helped 30 families with food. · In coordination with LCC, the mission gave out 11 cars donated to the refugeecommunity by Lutherans nationwide. · In coordination with LCC, the mission helped 25 families financially who weregoing through hardships. · More than two hundred bibles, 1500 prayer guides, and hundreds of tractswere distributed on campuses and other venues over the past three years. Mostof the money that was used to purchase those Bibles was raised through LCC.

On behalf of POBLO-Chicago, I would like, in this Thanksgiving week, to seize thisopportunity and thank Mr. Hetzner and all the LCC staff for their hard and diligent workfor the Kingdom. Hicham Chehab POBLO-Chicago Missionary Click here to read the entire email

LCC Staff Member Pete Imlah Returns from Kenyaand thanks ALL who supported this OUTREACHMission Trip - You Made A DifferencePete Writes:

I am back from my mission trip to Kenya. What a life changing experience! I was on ateam which served in Kiandai, Kenya which isabout 2 hours outside of Nairobi, the capital ofKenya. Each team was hosted by acongregation in Kenya and the pastors ofthose churches personally connected everyday with each individual who came to theclinic. At Kiandai we serviced over 1800 individuals in 5 days. Many walked for hours to attendthe free eye clinic (pictured below). Over 300 people, by the power of the HolySpirit, heard about and came to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The peoplewhere very appreciative as we shared the Mercy and Compassion of Jesus Christ withthem. We truly sensed that God was making a difference through us in serving thepeople of Kenya - and the people of God's Kingdom. The Lutheran Church in Kenya is working hard to share the Mercy and Compassion andPRESENCE of Jesus Christ to those who do not know him! The pastors are eager tocontinue to try new ways to reach people and train people with the unchanging messageof Salvation in Jesus Christ. The new Lutheran Study Bible seemed to be a popularrequest of the pastors I worked with. The team is going back in May. If you are interestedin going or would like more information please contact me [email protected] or [email protected] or call LCC at866-455-6466 Thank you for your support, which made this trip possible, and for being used by God totouch and change lives by the Holy Spirit - and see God's Kingdom Expand. TheLutheran Pastors there also share their THANKSGIVING for all of you. Your supportdemonstrates to them that the Body of Christ cares for one another - no matter whatcountry we serve. Humbly in Christ,Pete ImlahDirector of Mission and Outreach

Life Saving Education for Orphans in Kenya-$6,000 NeededUpdate from Jacob Fraher, concerning the work of PastorDennis Meeker in the slums of Kenya

A few years ago, LCMS Pastor Dennis Meekerand his wife, Deaconess Lorna (servingSprings of Life Lutheran Church Kibera, Kenya),started taking in orphans who had no one toprovide for them. The conditions some of thesechildren were living in were absolutelyhorrifying. They were relocated to the Meeker'shome and given the love and care every childdeserves. Below is the latest update fromPastor Meeker.

Greetings from Nairobi, Kenya! My wife, Deaconess Lorna, and I are serving inan area known as Kibera, the largest slum in Africa. It is estimated that over1,000,000 people are packed in a 1.5 square mile area, most of them living onless than $1 per day. Scattered throughout this impoverished area are thousandsof orphans.

We have started a ministry named Compassionate Social Care Ministries. CSCMis our way of getting support to the children we find in desperate need. If achild's parents die and there is no one to take the child in, he or she is left to thestreets or alone in what they once knew to be their home. Children drop out ofschool because no one is willing or able to pay their school fees and struggle tofeed themselves or their siblings. CSCM pays the school fees of over 100children who otherwise wouldn't be in school.

The economic recession has hit everyone hard and we are certainly feeling itover here in Kenya. In January 2010, school fees are due, and, by the looks ofthe situation, my wife and I will have a crisis on our hands. I cannot bear thethought of withdrawing these children who have no one else to provide for themfrom school enrollment because we are not able to pay their school fees.

Page 10: November 25, 2009 - Making A Difference Newsletter

We are sending out this emergency appeal in an effort to allow all our childrento remain in school. If a handful of churches took up an offering, we would getthat much closer to meeting our $6,000 goal by January. Also, individuals havethe opportunity to pay the school fees of specific children ($35 a month). Wecannot do this alone!

Please read more about our ministry at our website www.cscmkenya.org. Wecontinue to serve and love by the cross of Christ.

Rev. Dennis Meeker

Homeless Mother and Daughter inNeed of $1,000 for HousingRequest from Pastor David Barber andThomas Amato, Chairman Board of Elders,Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenview,Illinois UPDATED AS OF 11/1/2009:

Tina and Carla (names intentionally changed) want to thankeach of the donors for contributions received so far by ImmanuelLutheran Church, on their behalf. (pictured Thomas Amatoreceiving check from LCC)

These funds combined with the major portion of Carla'sNovember social security check, will be used to get thelong needed brake job done on their car this week. Oncethe brakes have been repaired, they will needapproximately $800 to replace the tires on their car.

Though Tina and Carla were in housing for the last threeweeks, thanks to a gift from Immanuel Lutheran Church, they will again be in their car tonight. About three weeksago, with the funds provided by Immanuel LutheranChurch, we were able to get Tina and her mom into ahouse-sharing arrangement in a northern suburb afterhaving lived in their car for about a year. Thisarrangement appeared to be working out fine, until lastweek, when the owner notified Tina that he had decided to move back into his parents'home and rent out his entire house. So Tina and Carla will be back living in their caragain unless we find them another home. If anyone in the north or northwest suburbs ofChicago has housing available that they wish to share with Tina, her mom and her smalldog, he/she can contact Tom Amato at Immanuel Lutheran Church (847.724-1034).

Again, any assistance for Tina and Carla would be a tremendous blessing to them asthey put their lives back together, especially as the colder weather is upon us. Click to donate to this fund...

Thanksgiving Greetingsfrom the Haitian LutheranMission Project, ChristLutheran Church, OrlandPark

LCC received the followingupdate from Sue Gross, HaitianLutheran Mission Project, ChristLutheran Church, Orland Park

Although in this economy we may feel we are having to do without some of the thingswe consider necessities, Thanksgiving might be a good time for us to re-evaluate what isreally important and what we might be able to give up permanently to give glory to GOD.I am not asking any of you to starve your families so that you can support Pastor Isaac'sMinistry but there might be a little luxury in your life you can do without so that someoneelse can feed his child more than 5 kernels of corn a day.

Does your family go out for dinner occasionally? Instead of taking them out for pizzaonce a month have pizza at home and sponsor an orphan for $25.00 a month with themoney you save by eating at home. Let the children know that they are feeding a childthat has nothing by giving up their night out.

Can You Help LCC Find Free Warehouse StorageFor Our Ongoing Ministry? In order to be able to respond to disastersswiftly, it is imperative that we operate in a stateof preparedness. To be able to do that, it isimportant that we have our vehicles andequipment stored in a location and environmentthat will enable us to move quickly.

For the other parts of our ministry, we need:

Work space for our volunteers that is aclimate controlled environmentHas short term storage space for donations till they can be picked up in a fewdays.A space large enough where we can drive in and store our Disaster responseRV and trailers for immediate DEPLOYMENT.A cargo bay allowing us the ability to load semi-trailers would also be nice anduseful feature.

If you know of someone who owns or has available warehouse space that isn't beingcurrently used, please contact Tim Hetzner at Lutheran Church Charities. We understandthat use of the warehouse would not be permanent and that the owner would have thefull rights to regain their facility if it was to be rented or sold. LCC would carry theinsurance on the space we are using. Please contact Tim Hetzner, President of LCC at(866) 455-6466 if you know of someone. This would be a tremendous Help in meetingthe increased demands LCC faces. Help us to continue to - by the Grace ofGod - Make A Difference in People's Lives and in God's Kingdom!
