Brief

Description

Tripped on GT Buccholtz protection. In Buccholtzrelay, no gas was observed, instead vacuum wasfound developed in the transformer tank andBuccholtz pipeline, though conservator oil level was

normal. The vacuum was broken. The reserve oilpump was also put in service.It was observed that due to inadequate flow of oilfrom conservator tank to transformer oil tank, createdoil starvation at Buccholtz relay causing its operation .The following checks were also done.a) The operation of valve between conservator tankand Buccholtz relay was checkedb) The valve outside air cell of conservator to breatherline was checked.c) The pipeline from conservator to breather was airblown to check /clear any blockage.DGA result from R&D was found satisfactory.

Brief

Description

HP and IP control valves closed leading to drop inload from 350 MW to 24 MW. This led to suddendecrease in steam pressure before HPT blading,resulting in LPBP tripping to manual. Load controllerchanged over to speed controller and load came

down to 0 MW with closure of HPCV / IPCV. SinceLPBP got changed over to manual and was in closedcondition, boiler tripped on Reheater protection.Though control fluid and trip oil pressure were steady,HP and IP secondary oil pressures observed to havedropped from 4.06 and 5.62 kg/cm2 to 1.92 and 0.74

kg/cm2. The EHC command was 54.9 % and whencontrol valves started closing, the commandincreased to 59.26%. Since load had dropped from350 MW to 24 MW, load controller changed over tospeed controller and EHC command reduced to19.5%. Further checking of EHC position feedback

revealed that even though EHC command was 59.26

Brief

Description

Electro Hydraulic Converter, the Plunger coil, the EHCpanel cards and the output of the Collins Transformerwere checked. No abnormality was observed exceptfault in one DO card used for indications in verticalpanel and plunger coil supply, the same was

replaced. The turbine was rolled and synchronized.Turbine was kept in hydraulic mode and the EHC waschecked. No abnormality was found in the hydrauliccircuit.Since no problem was observed in the operation ofEHC during checking and during Turbine run up,

reason could be established for dip in secondary oilpressures which had resulted in closing of all the HPand IP control valves.Since during checking, balance voltage got

disturbed, EHTC coil was replaced and balancevoltage was adjusted. EHC characteristic was also

checked. Freeness of EHC converter was checked.

disturbance system debris got entrapped in

CEP suction strainers. Subsequently CEPs

tripped one by one. Later inspection of the
