Candidates applying for the scholarship must:• Be U.S. citizens or nationals

• Be in the last two years of an ASU baccalaureate degree (dual

major!) or in the TEAMS graduate program leading to AZ teachercertification within the following disciplines: biology sciences;

chemistry; physics; Earth and space science; and general sciences

• Be seeking an Arizona teaching certificate for middle or secondary

education

• Have a GPA of 2.75 and above

• Be committed to teaching in a high need environment for 2 years

for every year of scholarship support received

STARR Noyce Scholars:• Can receive $13,000 (undergrads) - $17,000 (TEAMS grad

students)/year to apply toward their tuition/education-related

expenses

• Complete their student teaching requirements athigh-need schools

• Are provided many opportunities for mentoring and extra

professional development

• Receive paid memberships to NSTA

• Participate in local and national conferences and workshops

•Receive job placement support

TEAMS: Teacher Education for Arizona Math & Science

•Certification: 7-12 Math or Science

•Start date: June start

•Format: Full time - day time and evening, Polytechnic campus

•Student Teaching spans two semesters

•Admission requires 30 content area hours in one of the following:

Math, Biology, Physics, Earth/Space Science, Chemistry

A passing score on the content area AEPA test is required prior to the start of Fall semester, and is preferred prior to admission. In order to be provisionally

admitted without a passing AEPA score, applicants must provide proof of 

registration for a test no later than June.

Fingerprint ClearanceWho: Teacher prep students and certified teachers

What: Valid IVP fingerprint clearance card (background check)

– Valid for 6 years

– $69 for DPS to process, some places charge additional to roll thefingerprints

Where: Police station or school district (call prior)

– Packets may be available

When: Students not admitted by July 15 (Fall), December 15 (Spring) or May 15

(Summer), must have a valid IVP fingerprint clearance card prior to admission.No admissions will be processed after Aug 1 (Fall) or Jan 1 (Spring)

Special Note: If your card was issued after January 1, 2008, you will need to get a

new card with an IVP number. You will not be able to get certified

without an IVP fingerprint card.

Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessment (AEPA)• Per AZ Dept of Education - must pass both professional &

subject knowledge exams pertaining to your area of studyto obtain certification.

• To teach middle school, an additional subject knowledgeexam is required.(24 credit hours in content area is also recommended for some schooldistricts for their National Accreditation)
