You know your library is an essential service. But, how do
you communicate that and make sure you’re building an
effective base of support? During the webinar Making Your
Library an Essential Service &
Learning to Be a Library Advocate in
Your Community, library advocacy and
marketing consultant Libby Post, will
walk participants through the steps
needed to ensure that they stay on target
and are an advocacy success story.
Libby Post has been working with
public libraries across the country on
branding and advocacy since 2005. She
is the president and strategist-in-chief of Communication
Services, a boutique consulting firm that specializes in
public libraries, advocacy and political communications.
Her success rate for library voter initiatives is 84%.
The free webinar takes place on Tuesday, June 6 from
6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. To register, click here. The workshop
is made possible by the Library Trustee Association (LTA)

Summer Food Programs and
Intellectual Freedom
Intellectual Freedom Blog, May 24; Paste, May 15
John Mack Freeman writes: “With summer comes
vacations, busier public libraries, and an influx of children
and teens looking for things to do and materials to use. In
addition, many libraries have begun to be involved with
summer food programs. While
these programs often come about
as part of a push toward meeting
area needs and community
engagement, there is an argument
to be made that engaging in
summer food programs helps libraries fulfill their mission as
agents and protectors of intellectual freedom.”
