Transcript of November 2012 Newsletter
Kiwanis, an international organization that fosters community service projects, is our own Key Club’s parent organization. However, in the past few years, we have lost touch with them. This year and next year, one of our club’s main goals is to re-connect with our town and build up its Kiwanis Club. This will not only help us do what we do, but will give our community more input and opportunity in our service projects. Soon, we will be planning an event to foster a Kiwanis Liaison within our community. With the incredible events and opportunities we have planned for the upcoming months, I hope all Key Clubbers are excited as I am!
Yours in Caring and Service, Sylvia Levy

November 2012
Official Newsletter of Millburn High School Key Club/ NJ Division 14
Dear Key Clubbers, The month of November’s service was fantastic. Seeing all of you out there at the food drives, helping with various events and community service is so inspiring. I hope you all feel as fulfilled as I do proud and excited! Coming up in the winter months are many fun events. These include restaurant nights, food drives, Key Leader, and much more. Personally, I am very excited for the culmination of our holiday food drive. The next and last opportunity to help out with that is from December 28-30 at the Millburn Shoprite. This year, our Key Club is also developing and making some changes to how we operate within our greater New Jersey, Essex County and Millburn/ Short Hills communities. In the past, our club had a parent club – the Millburn/ Short Hills Kiwanis Club – aiding our various fundraisers and events.

for? Page 3
All in all, the Food Drives this year have been incredible so far. Hopefully this November success will be repeated with our next collection weekend at the Millburn Shoprite from the 28th to the 30th of December.

Thanksgiving Food Drive
BY GRACE JING (Committee Head)
The Thanksgiving segment of our club’s Food Drive was completed recently, and was quite a success. This past November, two segments of the Holiday Food Drive were completed. The first was a weekend at the Millburn Shoprite from November 9 to 11 where collecting food and money donations was highly successful. In all, our volunteers collected more than $1360 and more than 1700 lbs of food. Dozens of Key Clubbers volunteered their time to stand out in front of Shoprite to help collect food and money from shoppers. The second, a school-wide Food Drive at MHS, which ended on November 29th, raised more than $400 and more than 1000 lbs of food. Each homeroom in the school was given a box for collection and ultimately, five homerooms earned a free breakfast from Key Club for their incredible donations! The Senior class donated the most: with more than 700 lbs of food. Last Friday, the 30th of November, our school had a Battle of the Classes and the Food Drive was a major determinant of that event’s outcomes.

December is most certainly a fun-filled Key Club month! To start off, we have our CPK fundraiser for Eliminate, which will take place at the California Pizza Kitchen in the Mall at Short Hills, Wednesday, December 12th from 11:00 am to 9:30 pm. Since it’s practically all day, you can even go during senior lunch if you’re a senior! Make sure to mention that you want part of your purchase to go to the Eliminate Project. Also tell your family to CPK for dinner that night. For anyone who brings his/her whole family there on 12-12-12, you will receive a surprise gift from me! December is also the month of Key Leader. It is from December 14th to December 16th. It is not too late to register, but you will have to pay a $25 late fee. Trust me, it’s totally worth it! It’s a great opportunity where you learn about the qualities that epitomize a leader. I’ve gone every year, and I’ve always had a blast! We also have the entertainment book sales. For every book you sell, $12 either goes to the Eliminate Project or for DCON tuition. Therefore, I suggest that you sell, sell, sell! And last but not least we have the Eliminate Bracelet sales! For those of you who are selling, please turn in your money to me as soon as you can! Enjoy the month of December! I hope to see you all active and excited this month!
