FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT

THE COMING KINGDOM

Jeremiah could see it coming—the kingship of Jesus and the restoration of Jerusalem. But was anybody listening? Is anybody listening now? It must have been tough being a prophet, but Jeremiah was persistent in his message because he knew that it needed to be heard.

Also persistent in his message is Paul as he encourages the Thessalonians—and all of us—to live in accordance with the kingship that Jeremiah foretold. He encourages us to conduct ourselves in ways of holiness

so that we may be well prepared for the king’s coming. Finally, Jesus himself tells us to be ever diligent so that we may gain favor before our God and King.

Jeremiah could see the kingship of Jesus coming. As we begin the season of Advent, Paul and Jesus tell us not only how to prepare for the Kingdom, but how to live it day to day.

SAVE THE DATE: NOTRE DAME CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Sunday, December 13, 2015, 4pm In our Church

Everyone is invited to get in the Christmas spirit and join us for this special Christmas concert featuring our very own Music Ministry! Refreshments courtesy of our Social Events Ministry.

BE A PART OF OUR ANGEL TREE EFFORT

Our two "Angel Trees" are now in the Gathering Space, decorated with angels, bells and doves. Please consider reaching out to those in need by taking one or more angels, bells, or doves and purchasing the suggested gift. Gifts should be put in gift bags with the angel, bell or dove firmly attached, and brought back to our Gathering Space, no later than Sunday, December 13. This is a great way to give to the less for tunate at Christmastime.

If you or a family you know is experiencing difficult circumstances and would benefit from support, please contact Marilyn at 973-538-1358, ext. 121.

ADVENT PENANCE SERVICES

Advent is a time to prepare our hearts for the coming of the Lord. As we await, we remember that this is a time of faith in God, hope for the future, and love for one another. The Sacrament of Reconciliation offers us the opportunity to experience again the coming of Jesus as Savior and Redeemer. We will hold Penance Services on Wednesday, December 9 at 12:30pm (following our 12:10 daily Mass) & at 7:30pm (a meditative service with music, Adoration & Benediction).

LOVING ATTENTION NEEDED!

If you're someone who loves and appreciates the beauty of our worship space each time you attend a liturgy here at Notre Dame, we could really use your help. Our Altar Linens Ministry - the wonderful, dedicated helpers who ensure our altar linens are laundered and folded each week - is in urgent need of helping hands. Ministers serve on a rotating basis each week so that it does not become burdensome for anyone. If you think you might be able to help, or if you'd like to know more of the specifics, please contact Agnes Loughlin at 973-539-9524, or via e-mail: [email protected].

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS CHRISTMAS PARTY Saturday, December 5, 2015, 6:30-10pm

Our Lady of Mercy Parish Center

Join us for great food, professional entertainment, Santa Claus and an ornament exchange for the children. Admission is one dessert per family. Space is limited to 250 people and reservations are required. If you

would like to attend, please RSVP by December 1 to Peter George at [email protected] or call 862-812-0835 with your name, phone number, number of people who will be attending and the ages of any children.

AN ADVENT PRAYER

Lord Jesus,

Master of both the light and the darkness, send your Holy Spirit upon our preparations for Christmas.

We who have so much to do seek quiet spaces to hear your voice each day.

We who are anxious over many things look forward to your coming among us.

We who are blessed in so many ways long for the complete joy of your kingdom.

We whose hearts are heavy seek the joy of your presence.

We are your people, walking in darkness, yet seeking the light.

To you we say, "Come Lord Jesus!" Amen.

IF YOU COULD HELP BRING A FAMILY BACK TO CHURCH, WOULD YOU?

Many young families stop coming to Mass due to struggles they encounter in keeping their little ones from being disruptive during Mass. Our Shepherd's Call Ministry gives families an opportunity to come to our 9am or 10:30am Mass and change an experience of stress and frustration to one of spiritual nourishment for the entire family!

Will you consider helping us? Minister s are scheduled to serve only once per month or less, based on personal availability, and may choose to serve during the 9am or 10:30am Mass (or both!). About an hour and half of your time each month is all it takes to bring these families back to Mass! If you are able to make a difference in the lives of these families, contact Kelli White at [email protected], Norma Jahl at [email protected].
