NOTRE DAME OF MT. CARMEL, CEDAR KNOLLS, NJ Our Parish Mission Statement We are a welcoming Catholic Christian community alive in the faith! Through Baptism, we are called to become the heart, the hands and the voice of Jesus. We do this through Eucharist, liturgical celebrations, prayer, and nurturing parish ministries, “That in all things God may be glorified.” (Rule of St. Benedict)

Message of thanks from the Pastor:

Angels are a special part of Scripture. They guide us on the path of truth. They protect and watch over us. Angels are extensions of God's mercy in your life. They carry our prayers and petitions to God. Treasure your guardian angel. Be one in the life of others.

Love, Father Jude

THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

Thanksgiving

The word “thanksgiving” most often calls to our mind the holiday in November. But as early as the middle of the second century Justin Martyr referred to the blessed bread and wine of the Lord’s Supper as “food we call ‘thanksgiving’ ” (in Greek eucharistia). The Thanksgiving we celebrate in the autumn is at times marked by a sort of proud societal self-congratulation and the consumption of food until we sink into an inert stupor. The “thanksgiving” that we call our Eucharist is just the

opposite: we are led to it by an acknowledgment of our own failings; we remember our humble place in the scheme of things by giving praise to God alone.

While the food of Christ’s body and blood fills our spiritual hungers, it also creates in us a greater hunger. We are not sent to our spiritual sofas to let the Lord’s Supper settle; we are sent to be living signs of that thanksgiving for the world by looking out for the poor and powerless, feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, speaking out against the self-righteous. In short, the hunger created by our doing in remembrance of Christ must lead us to living in remembrance of him.

FATHER JUDE FAREWELL MASS

Although it will not technically be the “last” Mass he celebrates at Notre Dame, our 12:15pm Mass on Sunday, June 14, 2015 has been designated as a celebration of Father Jude’s farewell to our parish family, and our loving farewell to him. Please join us as we gather round the Eucharistic table with one who has served us so unselfishly, wisely, and with such love these past 18 years. A light reception in the Parish Hall will follow the Mass.

Join Fr. Jude & Deacon Ron Forino on a HOLY LAND PILGRIMAGE! January 19 – 26, 2016

On this spiritual pilgrimage we will:

Travel to Ein Karem (the village where John the Baptist was born), Emmaus and Nazareth;

Enjoy beautiful Capernaum (the center of Jesus' ministry), sail across the Sea of Galilee and visit the Mount of Beatitudes, visit

the Church of the Fishes and Loaves;

Be inspired by the breathtaking beauty of Jerusalem; visit the Southern Wall Excavations of the Temple; and much more!

A NOTE FROM OUR HEALING PRAYER MINISTRY!

Please note that our Healing Prayer ministers will not be available for their monthly prayer time this coming 2nd Sunday, June 14.

40 HOURS DEVOTION: Join us as we unite in praise & thanksgiving to Jesus for

Fr. Jude's 40 years of priesthood and 18 years of service to our parish!

The most valuable and lasting gift we can give our pastor as he prepares to leave our parish is the gift of our prayers. We will also have the opportunity to pray for our own intentions and our parish community going forward but most especially for Fr.

Jude's special intentions and the grace of healing for his eyes.

The 40 hours of devotion will take place in the church or in our St. Benedict’s Chapel during pre-designated times, beginning on Tuesday, June 9 and concluding on Friday, June 12. During those times, you may come to pray at any time before the Blessed Sacrament and stay as long as you wish. We also invite everyone who comes to pray to sign a journal that will be available and which will be given to Fr. Jude at his farewell Mass on June 14.

The 40 hours of devotion will include certain periods of public prayer, such as the Rosary, which will then be followed by silent Adoration. Everyone is invited to participate in reciting the public prayers (materials/prayers will be provided). During silent Adoration you may pray as you wish since it is YOUR personal time with Jesus. Many people just sit in Jesus' presence and speak to Him from the heart as to a friend, read a spiritual book/bible, meditate on the Eucharist, pray favorite prayers, or just clear their heads and hearts to listen to the Lord.

Please see enclosed flyer for the specific day/time schedule of prayer time, or visit our website at www.ndcarmel.com.
