TheUnitedMethodistCommitteeOnRelief(UMCOR)distributes“schoolkits”tochildrenaroundtheworldfollowingdisasters-earthquakes, hurricanes, typhoons, tornados, floods,fires,etc.

InSeptember,ajointNorthridge-ResedaUMCmissionteamwillgototheUMCORDepotinSaltLakeCitytohelpassemble“disasterreliefkits”.Inadditiontothe“healthkits”recentlycollectedbytheUMW,wewillalsobetaking“schoolkit”itemscollectedbytheNUMCcongregationandbythe2015NUMCVacationBibleSchoolfamiliesduringthemonthofJuly.

NUMChasbeenabigsupporteroftheScoutingformanyyears!Thankyou!OurSenior/AmbassadorGirlScoutTroopTintaguias has been a perpetual troop of high schoolgirlsatNUMCsinceatleasttheearly1990s,wehavepatchesdatingbackto1976.IthashadseveralNUMCmembersasadultadvisors, including Dorrel and Louis Atteberry andChuckMortensen.ThetroopiscurrentlyledbyNUMCmemberTandyWilson.

Frank Bell

Frank Bell was born during the depression in Delco,NorthCarolina.HedescribesDelcoasawideplaceintheroad.Later,heandhisfamilymovedtoLewisberg,WestVirginia,wherehisfatherownedafurniturestoreandhismothercaredforFrankandhisfivesiblings. Starting in the seventh grade, Frank attended GreenbrierMilitarySchool.HecompletedhiseducationatVirginiaPolytechnicInstitutewherehemajoredinmechanicalengineering. After spending four years in the Navy, Frank cametoCaliforniawherehewashiredbyJPLasatestengineer.DuringhistimeatJPLFrankwasinvolvedinmanytestsofcomponentsforheat,coldandshaketodeterminetheirreadinesstobecomepartofaspacecraft’sattitudecontrolfortheguidancesystemsfortheLunarlandingandfortheMarsandUranusorbiterandothersignificantprograms.Inhismodest,unassumingway,Frankdescribed his efforts in setting up the tests as “pick andshovel”work.Inl997,after37years,FrankretiredfromJPL. Duringthistime,FrankmarriedhiswifeDeaninl964andhadtwochildren,JimandMartha.Deandiedinl997.Hisson,Jim,livesinTennessee.Franklosthisdaughter,Marthain2010.
