grassroots economic development. I really enjoy working with the other board members to come up with ideas and suggestions for the clients. It is exciting and fulfilling to see the immediate success of local businesses from month to month. Background: Edwards was raised in Valley Falls, Kansas, where she grew up helping with her family’s construction company. In 2008, she graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Mass Communications with an emphasis in Advertising. After graduation, she worked at the corporate office of Collective Brands [Payless Shoes] for a year before moving to Hiawatha and taking her current position with Rainbow Communications. In Edwards’ position at Rainbow Communications, she serves on the

Chamber of Commerce boards for Hiawatha, Horton and Sabetha. She also serves on the Glacial Hills RC&D Rural Business Development Program and the Northeast Kansas Coalition for Rural Economic Development. Northeast Kansas Enterprise Facilitator Teresa McAnerney states that, “Hallee is a pleasure to work with, she always has a smile on her face! She brings a fresh, innovative approach to the table during board meeting brainstorming sessions to help entrepreneurs and existing businesses in the area.”

wooden wheel. Go through the wheelwright shop where Don could be building or repairing a wagon wheel. In the wainwright shop you will find wagons being built and restored.

As both a wheelwright and wainwright, Don is a rarely found craftsman. Excluding the Amish, it's been estimated that there are only five or six such craftsmen in the U.S. that build all of their products from the ground up.

Werner Wagons have been featured in movies such as "Ride With the Devil" and "In Search of the Oregon Trail." You can see their vehicles in numerous parades, and they have featured in Kansas Country Living, Kansas Heritage, Draft Horse Journal, Farm Show Magazine and the book, Wheels Across America.

In 2010 the Werner’s open the Werner Guest House, which is nestled between Mission Lake at the fore view and Werner Wagon Works, a historically rich wagon shop where, for more than 22 years, Don has been building new and restoring all types of horse-drawn conveyances. If you are interested in the history of wagon building, you are welcome to take a guided tour of the wagon shop.

So if you're looking for a relaxing getaway, wish to go boating, water skiing, fishing, hunting or are here to see family and friends, please give Werner Guest House a visit. For reservation please call Connie the Inn Keeper at (785) 548-5500.
