3. Once upon a time, a heavenly creature swallowed the moon and the whole earth

was plunged into darkness. Goddess Khuazingnu put a couple from each human

clan and representatives of each species of animals into a pit and sealed it with a

huge rock called the Chhinlung to protect them.

Some generations later, the goddess opened the mouth of the pit. Droves of

humans emerged and she closed the Chhinlung for she reasoned there were

enough people on earth. Among the people who emerged was a powerful man

named Thlanrawkpa. He was named king and to celebrate he planned to host a

feast, later to be known as the Thlanrawkpa Khuangchawi.

He, however, forgot to invite his father-in-law, Sabereka, who was furious and

caused thunderstorms that washed away all the earth of the village, leaving behind

only rock.

sweet shop as the only source of income, he was raised with limited resources. His father

University to study statistics.

It was in 1985, he started working for BRAC, an international development agency based

in Bangladesh. The organisation trained him and appointed as a field officer in one of the

most poverty-stricken areas of Bangladesh.

Besides a Rs 1.75 lakh borrowed from a local moneylender at an interest rate of 7.5

percent per month, the Rs 25,000 borrowed from his sister and brother-in-law was the

only capital for his work as no commercial bank was willing to give money. In the early

days, he had only two staff members — Partha Samanta and Fatik Bera.

ashram in the Chuchuyimlang village in Nagaland in 1955. At that time, the Naga

rebels and the Indian army were constantly at war and hence the militants considered

any "Indian" as a "spy" and they warned villagers not to shelter or aid him.

During his stay in Nagaland, he has been attacked and threatened by insurgents several

times to leave the state. Jawaharlal Nehru had encouraged him to stay in the village and

to continue his work; Nehru also allotted funds to promote his initiatives. Due to his

efforts, an extension centre of National Institute of Electronics and Information

Technology was started in Chuchuyimlang village in 2006.

spread throughout the northeastern states of India, northwestern Myanmar

Colonizer ruled over India for a hundred years and Burma for fifty years; they

started invading the country from different corners and at last, the British

divided the country with the people living therein into different segments.

was found dead in a Geneva hotel on July 20 last year.

not giving his confirmation for a long time whether he would act or not in this song

that had drunken scenes, this situation compelled director to take advice from Biju

Phukan for alternative. Biju Phukan told director Samarendra Narayan Dev that except

Bishnu Khargharia there was no any alternative for that song. Director then sent a

telegram to Bishnu Khargharia and called immediately to location. Bishnu Khargharia

thought that since Biju Phukan and Deuti Barua were there in the location, that was

better to go there. He came. He stayed there for 4 days. He even heard this song so

many times so that he could express required mood during acting. He did rehearsals

2. Jaswant Singh Rawat was an Indian soldier who won the Maha Vir Chakra

posthumously.

According to a popular local story, it was the final phase of the Sino-Indian war in

November, 1962. Even as his company was asked to fall back, he remained at his post

and held back Chinese soldiers for three days assisted by two local Monpa girls named

X and Y . They set up weapons at separated spots and maintained a volume of fire

that made Chinese think they were opposed by a body of troops. But finally Chinese

soldiers got the trick and attacked in force, X died in a grenade burst, Y was

captured and Jaswant shot himself with his last cartridge when he realized that he was

important part of Nongkrem dance Festival is the ritual of Pemblang
