Practice AreasFounding partner Norman De Castro concentrates his practice in Commercial and Corporate Law, as well as Labor Law. He has extensive experience in Real Estate, Foreign Investment and International Trade, Intellectual Property, Immigra-tion and Family Law, working in virtually all areas of Dominican law.

He is trilingual in Spanish, English, and French, having handled cases in all three languages.

ExperienceWith over two decades of experience in the legal field, he has advised local and international clients in employment and labor law, particularly multinationals and free zones’ companies. In the corporate practice, he advises and represents in mediations, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, capital investments, licensing, and distribution operations. Mr. De Castro is a pioneer in the country to offer legal advice in the cinema industry in Dominican Republic. He also consults in the telecommunications industry and about sports law.

During his collaboration as a partner in a leading law firm in the country, some of his most relevant cases were assisting the main group of oil, gas, and petrochemical companies established in Dominican Republic in their process of disinvest-ment in the country, including the sale of their shares in the only domestic Oil Refinery, and the sale of their retail distribu-tion. He has also worked on the establishment in the country of several European retailers; as well as in advising the largest professional baseball league in North America and several of their teams in their operations in Dominican territory.

Education & PublicationsMr. De Castro is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra with a Bachelor of Laws. He received his LL.M in Corporate Law at Bordeaux I Université, Spécialité Droit des Affaires. He subsequently obtained specialized diplomas in Civil Law and Political Science from Paris II Université achieving Assez-Bien honors in all of them.

Some of his most important publications were “Annotated Social Security Law” (CILS, Austria, 2006), “Legal Framework on Labor Matters” (CILS, Austria, 2005), “Doing Business: Legal and Tax Framework” (Saint Domingue Affaires Magazine, Chamber of Commerce Dominican-French, Santo Domingo 1997-2000), “The Legal Audit” (Gaceta Judicial, 1993), “The New Labor Code: Executive Summary” (Legal Journal PUCMM, 1992).

Affiliations & CredentialsHe was the Dominican Ambassador to the French Republic and the Kingdom of Morocco and is currently Honorary Consul of the Republic of South Africa in the country. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Alliance Française in Dominican Republic as well as member of Dominican Republic’s Bar Association. He is the President of the Associa-tion of Friendship South Africa - Dominican Republic, and Treasurer at ‘Trampolín’ Children's Museum.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Dominican Petroleum Refinery, as well as ex-member in several local and international financial institutions established in the country. He is also former President and Board Member of the French Lyceum of Santo Domingo.
