Nora Medrano Ernesto Perez Sara Pettus Elizabeth Rodriguez How Second Life can assist students learn Spanish Slide 2 Instituto Espaol is a place where people come together to learn or enhance their Spanish language. There are various places one can visit that imitate how places from Mexico look. For example, La Casa de La Cultura (Culture House) imitates La Serpiente Emplumada (Plumed serpent) from Mexico in which the Spanish classrooms are located. People can also learn from the Spanish Music which is heard from every place that is visited. El Zocalo (Main Plaza) is a place where people go and have a good time dancing to Spanish culture music. Overall, the main goal of Instituo Espol is to bring people together to learn Spanish. Instituto Espaol Slide 3 As said by Clark and Myer 2008, e-Learning is used by many different people to meet the diverse learning styles and goals in mind. (Clark, Myer 2008) About 300 universities world wide have conducted research or taught in Second Life (Michels 2008) (Ortega, Romans-Roca 2010). Second Life is a new way to imitate the type of tasks and learning activities that take place in a real classroom. Second Life is able to successfully engage the learner in a way that is otherwise not able to be done in an actual real life classroom. 3-D animated virtual worlds are no longer only for gaming but are used as well for education; e-Learning courses. As technology advances the animated virtual worlds are not only found on computers, but also connect users with the Internet. Research and Theory Slide 4 Script Second life has a variety of interesting and educational places to visit. It is not just a video game but a place where people can come together alone or as a group to expand their learning. When you visit second life you feel you are really in that certain place and change your perceptive about learning after all, I believe that was the concept behind it. -Nora Medrano Slide 5 Photos from Instituto Espaol Casa de la CulturaEl Rincon El Zocalo Pabellon de la Cultura La OficinaSeora Calderon Clase de Espaol
