NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Local Data Sharing Partnership
Case Study
“Data Sharing Enabled by Clinical Portal Technologies”
George LynchInformation & Application Services Manager
Renfrewshire Council
April 2013
• Recognises the diversity within public sector and between local data sharing partnerships in terms of organisational design, processes and systems and the need to encourage a range of solutions to enable collaborative practitioner working. One size will not fit all.
• Incremental change and pragmatism are the key to success. Perfection should not be the enemy of the good.

NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde/Renfrewshire Council response to the challenge of sharing cased based information has resulted in development of a Portal based solution using “Orion” to provide professionals with a shared view of health and social care data.
Aims and scope of a data sharing
• Use proven, supported technology – portal approach well established within NHS GG&C, so can be extended to partner local authorities.
• Address continued reliance on paper - make basic information available to practitioners through easy to use electronic means
• Create a shared statement of business needs, functional and non-functional requirements
• Specify components of a technology solution that is fit for purpose, affordable, re useable and sustainable
• Launch Portal from within agency applications• Redesign of interactive multi-agency processes in line with

Next Steps...
• Establish ‘how’ building blocks can be reused / shared• Provide technical products to a ‘national library’ for
wider use• Transfer building blocks to date to other GGC LA
areas to allow the introduction of Portal to a wider user base – West Dun as next area
• Potentially extend Information Integration to... • Adults in Renfrewshire Council• include more Social Care information• include other partners e.g. Education, Housing.
• Adhere to local Portal release cycle to introduce new functionality
“Beyond Portal” – explore
collaborative working using existing
systems to integrate business processes
between organisations
