KENYA THE CRADLE OF MANKIND: Kenya's rich pre-historic heritage not only tells the story of man's origin and evolution, but also, has contributed to the understanding of the earth's history. Several thousand fossils and artifacts spanning over 27 million years have been discovered in Kenya. Over

In the area of Coffee productions, despite the dramatic plunge in coffee production due to the severe drought in 2012/13, opportunities abound in

As the years went by and after my wife died I spent time traveling the world and lived in the UK, Amsterdam, Taiwan and other parts of the world for various durations. hitting the Contact Us button on the public GRW website www.grwglobal.com thinking it is the one (per agency contract) that they are to do so weekly..IT IS NOT. The private agency site of www.grwagency.com and then the Contact Us button is the proper website for doing the weekly log in Contact Us confirmation.. When you do it there then it goes in your agency file and you receive an auto confirmation of logging in. You will notice Sugar is

to read the country reports

from beginning to end and

it will be on Greece.

Also by looking at the

products mentioned on

You will never know if you

Fisheries

Kenya's water resources of the Indian Ocean and Lake Victoria provide vast fishing potential. At present, deep sea fishing, prawn and trout farming are in their infancy but growing rapidly. Opportunity also exists in fish processing (filleting and fish meal production), as well as fisheries-support infrastructure (refrigerated transport, cold storage, etc).

Livestock

Investment opportunities exist in the rearing of livestock for meat and dairy products. The dairy industry has been liberalized, providing new investment opportunities in milk processing for local and regional markets. Non-conventional livestock farming for example, of ostrich and crocodile farming, represent an exciting new area of investment. Bee keeping and honey processing are an untapped potential in Kenya. Other areas such as wood and wood products, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing also hold potential for investors.

TOURISM

Famous for its classic savanna safaris, Kenya is a country of dramatic extremes and classic contrasts. Deserts and alpine snows; forests and open plains; the metropolis of Nairobi and colorful tribal cultures; freshwater lakes and coral reefs. For many people, Kenya is East Africa in microcosm. The wildlife safaris have been the top tourist attractions in Kenya for decades while other activities include trekking Mount Kenya, ballooning over the Masai Mara and snorkeling in Malindi on the Indian Ocean coast.

Nairobi National Park

Nairobi National Park is just a 10 minutes drive from the center of Nairobi with only a fence separating the park’s wildlife from the metropolis. Nairobi’s skyscrapers can be seen from the park. Despite its proximity to the city and the relative small size of the park, Nairobi National Park boasts a large and varied wildlife population. Migrating wildebeest and zebra gather in the park during the dry season, and it is one of Kenya’s most successful rhinoceros sanctuaries

Exports

Page 8: Newslettergrwapril2015

Kenya's has made a name for herself in agribusiness. Of international repute is Kenyan tea and coffee, in addition to pyrethrum and pineapples. Beer, refined petroleum products, iron and steel products, Glass & Glassware, salts, Billets, sulfuric acid, soda ash (Kenya is a world’s leading producer of Soda ash)tobacco and cement also feature in the growing list of exports. A third of Kenya's produce is exported, making it the mainstay of Kenya's economy. Agriculture and manufacturing, therefore, offer plenty of investment opportunities in value addition, technology transfer, infrastructure development, transport, irrigation, processing, packaging and storage.

Branding Kenya: Distinguishing Kenyan products

Kenya's authentic goods and services have for decades been appreciated in both local and international circles. Therefore the need for a unique identifier reinforcing their origin, while assuring consumers on their authenticity was seen as necessary in branding Kenya.

The mark of identity was developed to address image and reputation of Kenyan products. The logo is derived from the national identity and is complimented by the strap line "A touch of Kenya" The long term objective is to have Kenyan manufacturers and service providers use the mark of identity on their products and services, to distinguish Kenyan products from the rest. This is expected to boost Kenya's image as a producer of quality goods and services.

Banking and Insurance

Landscape of Kenya's Banking Sector

There are 43 commercial banks in Kenya. The largest in terms of asset value is Kenya Commercial Bank, with an asset base of approximately KShs 190 billion shillings (USD 2.5 billion) at the end of 2008. Post‐independence, the Kenyan banking sector was largely driven by the local operations of foreign institutions such as Barclays and Standard Chartered. A very different landscape exists today, where local institutions abound and mostly target the retail market.

There are approximately 6.3 million bank accounts in Kenya. With a total population of more than 36 million people, there is clear scope for further penetration of the market. Nevertheless, this figure represents significant growth in the banking industry from the mere 2.6 million accounts that were open at the end of 2005.

There are currently nine banks or the holding companies of banks listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange. These had a combined market value in excess of KShs 270 billion (USD 3.6 billion) at the end of August 2009.

There are surfing, snorkeling, deep-sea fishing and other water sports. The Malindi Marine National Park is protected and has fine beaches clear water and very colorful fish. Malindi is served with a domestic airport and a highway between Mombasa and Lamu.

Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa, after Kilimanjaro. The mountain offers a beautiful sight. Its series of peaks are crowned with snow, and its slopes are covered with forest. “When GRW first started there were many

challenges and for each challenge financial or

otherwise, I would analyze the issue very clearly

and I would implement a plan to solve the issue

and if it did not work out then I would try a new

approach, and again a newer approach until

success came, and I never, never, never, never ,

repeat never gave up until I accomplished what

I set out to do. I remembered the story of the

large gold mining company who tried for years

with all their fancy equipment and never struck

gold so they packed up and left, but an old

miner with a donkey and pick ax came along

and dug two feet more and struck the largest

vein of gold never imaginable. I visualized

success. I refused to accept anything but success

even if it took me years and years. The never

giving up philosophy is why GRW is what it is

today”.
