This will begin at 7.00pm in the school library and will be followed by Christmas cake and cheers. It would be great to see as many people as possible at this meeting. We will be holding our Leavers’ Mass this Friday 9 th December at 9.15am at St Benedict’s Church. This is a special Mass and we invite everyone, especially the Year 8 leaversfamilies, to join us if possible. This will be followed by a shared morning tea at school to thank everyone who has helped out at school this year. Everyone is welcome to join us for this. All Year 8 students are asked to bring a plate. End of Year reports will be sent home this Friday with your children. Along with information about progress and achievement these reports will include classes for next year. For children in their 1 st three years at school who are not receiving a report this term a letter will be sent home with your children indicating their class for next year. From the Board of Trustees Over the Christmas break the exterior of our school is going to be painted as a part of our 10 year maintenance plan. Next week work will begin with erecting the scaffolding along the northern side of the school. This has to happen now so the painting can be finished before we return to school in 2017. Because of this work beginning next week the area outside Rooms 1 & 2, including the junior playground, will be out of bounds as we need to ensure everyone’s safety. We ask that parents and children in Rooms 1 & 2 use the main entrance to enter and leave the school during this time. We thank you in advance for your support with this. Last Friday we were treated to a range of wonderful speeches presented at a very high standard during our school speech competition. We were all impressed by the confidence of the finalists and the way in which they presented their speeches to the audience. It is a real pleasure to see our students enjoying the opportunity to take part in this competition and public speaking so passionately and articulately about their topics. We would like to thank Sanjiv Jetly and Timothy Preston for agreeing to judge this competition again this year. Dates to mark in your diary:

On Wednesday 14

th December we will be holding our annual “Big Day Out” where we take the whole school on a

mystery trip to celebrate the year that has been and to build community amongst our school community. Please see the information about this below. On Thursday 15th December we will be holding our Carol Service and Senior Prize giving. This will held at St Benedict’s Church and will begin at 6.00pm. It would be great to see everyone at this special end of year occasion.

Last week (Monday-Sunday), our solar panels generated 124 kWh of solar energy. For the month of November we generated 528kWh of solar energy. This was 11% of our total consumption. Our school page can be viewed by clicking on the St Benedict’s School Schoolgen link: http://schoolgen.co.nz/schoolgen-schools/st-benedicts-school.

Please remember to keep an eye on the school calendar as we are all very busy at this time of the year. We will endeavour to keep everyone well informed of events coming up before the end of the year.

Kind Regards Dave Lamont Principal

Big Day Out– Wednesday 14th December 2016

Once again we will be celebrating the end of another great school year with our whole school “Big Day Out”. The aim of the day is to “build community” within the school and to celebrate our successes and achievements. The children are grouped across year groups. Due to recent Earthquakes and in an attempt to quell any concerns around where your children will be in the event of an emergency we have decided that the Big Day Out destination should be made known from now on. This year we are returning to the ASB Sports Centre as the feedback last year was so positive from the students. The school will travel by bus leaving school at 9:45 a.m and returning to school by 2:50 p.m. To make this trip a success we will need to have parent helpers to support the teachers on the day. If you are able to actively help please indicate on the slip below and return it to the school office. Helpers are welcome to travel on the bus with us. Kind Regards Cheryl Taylor Deputy Principal ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Big Day Out parent helper slip I am able/ unable help with supervision with my child’s class.
