As the new Deputy Principal, I am looking forward to getting to know the staff, students and parents at Cobar High School. We have had a busy start to the year and as we approach the mid-term break, students and staff are working towards being focussed on learning for another successful year. Many people in and around the community have been commenting on our construction area in the playground where the new covered area is being fitted out over the basketball courts. This week has seen the roofing sheets being placed and we are hoping to see it fenced and finished within a few weeks. Our year 7 students are settling in well and have been participating in some Best Start Testing to enable us to support their learning as they transition from primary to secondary school. Sport has now commenced with a change to the school day now seeing our school sport happening on Friday afternoons period 5 and 6. Our first Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) rewards BBQ has seen a large number of Cobar High School students turn in their Ram cards and bands for sausage sandwiches and drinks. It was fantastic to see so many of our new students enjoying this event. I would like to remind the Cobar HS community that all students should be arriving before the morning muster bell, and be settled in full school uniform ready to start the day. Our morning muster is a very important part of the school day as it allows staff to communicate with the whole school on sporting events, programs and vital information about organisation. On our morning muster, school uniform and attendance for the day is recorded and parents/carers are reminded that if your child is out of uniform they need to bring a note with a valid explanation. Attendance at school is compulsory and all absences and late arrivals need to have a valid explanation. Our eligible stage 6 students have been issued their notes for senior privileges, which allow some students flexible attendance. Senior students need to maintain attendance rates above 91%, complete all assessment work on time and have school uniform compliance to a high standard. Enjoy the mid term break and we will see all students back at school on Tuesday the 3rd of March.
