What a great start to the year! Congratulations to staff and students for the
strong start that they have made this year. Our
official student enrolment for 2019 is 344 happy
students! The enthusiasm and optimism in
each classroom has been evident through
students’ positive behavior and energetic
approach to learning.
Parking reminder
The Jets Car Park is a great resource for our
families to utilise for parking when the weather
is fine but, due to the poor drainage, it is not
an option for us to use after heavy rain. In the
interim, if you park on the side of the road or
cross the road, please have physical contact
with your child until you are in the school
grounds to ensure no tragic accident ever
takes place. Otherwise utilise our “Kiss and
Drop” drop off and pick up area, but DO NOT
TURN RIGHT out of this area please to make
sure that we are all safe. Thank you!
2019 Class Dojos
Class Dojos were well received last year and
will continue for 2019. This program allows
classes to have a consistent positive reward
system. Dojo points are awarded for positive
behaviour and students are awarded a blue
star when they accrue 10 Dojo points.
School Fees & Voluntary
Contribution
Thank you to all of our families who have paid
either their school fees or the voluntary
contribution. A reminder that our fees ($65.00
per child) are based on recouping the money
that the school has spent on the electronic
texts being used in the classrooms this year and
also for the paper, copying and stationary
supplies which are provided to each child. The
voluntary contributions ($60.00 for 1 child,
$80.00 for 2 children and $100.00 for 3+
children) allow the school to offer some
programs which would otherwise not take
place.

Wow! A massive thank you to Coles Tweed Mall and
Coles Tweed City who are both sponsoring the
Canteen Kitchen Rules program to the tune of $50.00 a
month. This will cover all the food that we cook for the
year and a few resources for the kitchen. Speaking of
Canteen Kitchen Rules, we started this week with a
team of Stage 2 boys.
A School Yard Blitz team is being put together and our
first project will be to build a natural tree bench down
under the big mango tree so students have somewhere
to sit in the shade while in the playground.
‘Seasons for Growth’ for Stage 3 is also about to
commence. If you have a child who is struggling with
grief or loss due to parents separating, a loved one
passing away, or because your family has moved to our
area and your child is really missing their old friends and
their old place, let me know and we can get them into
this great program. It really does help the kids to open
up and explore emotions and feelings that are very
real.
‘Green Thumbs’ kicked off last Friday, 15 February at
lunchtime and will happen every Friday lunch. Look at
the crew we have! Good looking bunch. About 15
students turned up to dig out weeds and get our
gardens up to scratch before planting our fruit and
vegetables.
My plan is to take lots of photos so parents can see their
children in action at Bilambil Public School. Keep your
eyes open because you never know when one of your
children might become a Newsletter star!

What a start to the year in the Library! Students have already been reading and borrowing a huge
amount of books and are starting to get into the habit of
bringing their library bags on their given days (Kindergarten on
Tuesday, Stage 2 on Wednesday, Stage 3 on Thursday and
Stage 1 on Friday).
Lunchtime in the library has changed slightly with Mondays,
Wednesdays and Fridays focusing on quiet reading and arts
and crafts, and Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes including
board games and hands on model building materials. A new
inclusion to the library this year is the Student Whiteboard which
has already seen some impressive artwork and notations.
Continuing on from the amazing work that Mr Glasson has
performed in the past few years, the library's focus is to
continue to be a resource of a wide variety of books and
information, as well as being a hub for 21st Century Learning.
This includes investigations into Science, Technology,
Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) where students are able
to learn and master problem solving and collaboration skills.
Stage 1 has already started investigating and making their own
circuits and switches using batteries, wires and LEDs, while
Stage 3 have been using the video game "Keep Talking an
Nobody Explodes" to practice effective communication and
code breaking.
Please feel free to come in, say hello and share in our resources
and learning experiences!

SWIMMING CARNIVAL
What a fantastic day our students and teachers had “a
splishing and a splashing” at Banora Pool last Wednesday 13
February, 2019
The weather gods certainly turned it on (a bit too much
actually) but the enthusiasm and excitement was electric.
Participation rates were high and good times were had.
Congratulations to all students in attendance, especially to the
42 swimmers who qualified to attend the PSSA Tweed District
Swimming Carnival. On Tuesday 19 February, 2019.

CANTEEN MENU
We really do have an incredible canteen.
We’ve just been looked at by the Healthy
School Canteen people and we are
exceeding expectations, and are not far off
having 95 per cent of our menu as healthy
everyday items!
If you are ever looking for a copy of our latest
menu, we’ve added a new page to our
uniform shop website www.bilambilpc.org.au
Just look for the tab marked canteen and
you’ll find it there. It will tell you what days the
canteen is open, as well as the latest menu –
including brekky club and sushi day.
New volunteers always welcome – and it’s a
good way to learn the secrets to sneaking
vegetables into tasty treats!
GENEROUS FEAT Did you know The Athletes Foot supports our
school. Just mention our school next time you
shop there and they will donate some cash
back to our school.
LEARN TO SAVE Did you miss the School Banking information
session on Monday? If you didn’t get a
chance to find out about the banking
program we run on behalf of the
Commonwealth Bank, pop into a branch and
they can set your child up with an account.
Your child can earn rewards for regular
savings – and the school benefits too
because the bank pays us a contribution
based on the number of students and
deposits we take each year. This scheme is
open to the preschool too.
WHY JOIN THE P&C? Being part of the P&C lets you know what’s
going on with your child’s school. We are the
ones the school turns to when they want
parent input on a new idea, and they keep
us informed with some of the great visions
they are working towards. Become a
member for a gold coin and you’ll be entitled
to vote on decisions at our meetings – you’ll
also get sent our meeting agendas to keep
track of what we are discussing.
At our first meeting of the year we got to meet
our new principal Mr Davis and get swept up in
his enthusiasm for what 2019 has in store for our
kids. We planned our main fundraisers for the
year, discussed some new ideas for our uniform,
and we approved the spending of our Mother’s
Day stall budget, and supported the
continuation of the school chaplaincy program
as the community partner.
NEXT MEETING In 2019 our meetings are changing to MONDAY
AFTERNOONS. They’ll be held in week 3 & week
8 of each term. Our next meeting will be
Monday 18 March, 2019 at 3.15pm in the school
staff room. Come along and see what we’re all
about.
WE’RE ON FACEBOOK! Stay in touch with things happening at our
school by joining the P&C Facebook page.
You’ll get to hear about events the P&C is
planning, uniform or canteen specials, and all
sorts of things we think parents and families want
to know about.

Term 1 - Week 4, 20 February 2019 Newsletter TWEED DANCE AT
BILAMBIL PS
Hi everyone,
I am happy to announce that
Tweed Dance is now running
dance classes at Bilambil School.
This will mean that students will
have the opportunity to enjoy
dance classes straight after
school in a safe, familiar and
convenient location with classes
from as little as $5.50* per
student/per class.
Miss Susannah has recently
informed me that she will be
moving to Sydney to further her
education and as a result the
opportunity was presented to
Tweed Dance to run dance
classes at Bilambil School.
The good news is Miss Susannah
will still be teaching classes at
Bilambil for Tweed Dance up until
the end of Term 1, which will
allow for a smooth transition until
her departure. A replacement
teacher will take over from term 2
onwards. We wish Miss Susannah
all the best for the future.
The other good news is Tweed
Dance accepts both Creative
Kids vouchers and Active Kids
vouchers, which are available to
all students enrolled in a NSW
school. Children who are 4.5
years and older and who are
enrolled in a pre-school are also
eligible for the Creative Kids
voucher and the Active Kids
voucher.
For further information about
vouchers, enrolment or to view
the timetable or gallery please go
to the Tweed Dance website.
Tweed Dance looks forward to
being part of the wonderful
community of Bilambil in and
beyond the year ahead!
