I continue to be humbled by the support that our school community gives to our charity events. It is an unfortunate fact that most of us are now touched with the heartache that cancer brings. It brings a small sense of pride to us that we can support Macmillans who do so much to support the families of those suering from this disease. The standard of cakes that were made was fantastic - thank you. All that time spent watching the British Bake Ohas been put to use! Year 1 and Year 2 had a fantastic day last week at Manchester Airport. They had lovely opportunities to explore an aircraft and learn how the airport works. This visit really inspired the

children...their work is really taking off…!

Thank you once again for your support last week at our Macmillan coffee morning. I continue to be humbled by the support that our school community gives to our charity events. It is an unfortunate fact that most of us are now touched with the heartache that cancer brings. It brings a small sense of pride to us that we can support Macmillans who do so much to support the families of those suffering from this disease.

The standard of cakes that were made was fantastic - thank you. All that time spent watching the British Bake Off has been put to use! Smallworld also held their own coffee morning - we will be pooling our

donations and befitting from the very kind match-funding from Barclays Bank giving us a grand total of about £1,500.

Thank you to the parents who have completed the online questionnaire that I write about last week. Please visit www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/146869CYEXM/ if you would like to add your views.

Smoking in cars From tomorrow (1st October) it is illegal to smoke in a car when you have children traveling with you.

Woodwind LessonsThe school continues to have a large number of children who take music lessons in the school with the music teachers who visit us.

Lesley Moss teaches the children a variety of woodwind instruments. She has spaces available after the half term holiday for children in Years 4, 5 or 6 who are interested in learning to play the flute or clarinet. Children (and parents) would be welcome to meet Mrs Moss to have a go on an instrument and find out more about the lessons and instruments.

Please contact Mrs Moss directly by email at: [email protected]

Our Rugby news...“On Friday, Year 5 and 4 went to a tag rugby world cup festival at Northwich Rugby Club. We represented Namibia. The other teams looked very good but we tried our hardest. We won, drew and lost some. Altogether we scored a lot of tries. We had great fun there. Why don’t you try the sport?”Freya, Year 4

Football...We have recently taken part in two other other events: Years 3 and 4 playing away at Lostock last night winning 2-0.

On Monday, nine children took part in a tournament at Weaverham High School with seven other schools from our cluster. We scored 10 goals in total, coming just second to Little Leigh.

School Communications and PaymentsI am in the process of reviewing the systems that the school uses for registering the children, recording lunches, sending emails and texts. I am aware that the current system of sending emails to parents (such as the way you receive the weekly newsletter) is a little clumsy - it is difficult for some devices to use. Unfortunately, the school has been tied into a long contract, which is now nearing its end.

I am particularly interested in a system that allows you to pay for lunches, snacks, uniform, school visits etc via on online payment website using bank transfer, debit/credit cards. This could be possible through a computer/tablet or smart phone.

Before I go any further forward, I would be very interested to hear if this would be useful for you. I

would be happy for any feedback and ideas. You can leave messages in school for me, to my email account ([email protected]) or you can leave comments on the online questionnaire in the spaces after the questions.

If you would like to help with a trial version of a system that we may use, can you let me know? You will have a sneak preview of some of the features and be able to give us some direct feedback.

As with these things, there is always a cost implication; I am keen to ensure that any new system we use is the best value for money possible as well as making all our busy lives a little simpler!
