The ceremony also involved the official opening of Shannon Engine Support’s 11,000 sq ft office premises at Westpark. The energy-efficient Westpark building houses approximately 300 employees of GECAS, following the company’s move, after 25 years, from its former Aviation House in Shannon. The innovative design of the new facility accords well with the GE Ecomagi- nation initiative, providing an idyllic working ambience, with maximum usage of natural light and substantial energy efficiencies. ENDORSEMENT Brian O’Connell, Managing Director, Westpark Shannon described the new GECAS facility as a “landmark endorsement” of the Westpark campus and the whole Shannon Region. He added: “Our main priority in developing this world-class campus is to meet and surpass the sophisticated requirements of blue-chip international companies such as GECAS”. “Westpark provides tailored office space, with comprehensive fit-out and support services, to both large and small-scale enterprises. We are delighted that leading international companies and Irish-owned SMEs engaged in aviation and the knowledge industry are already based here. We intend developing similar successful clusters in IT, financial services and insurance,” he concluded. GECAS, Shannon Engine Support and GE The GECAS Shannon operation comprises business technical and finance operations, information technology, and its insurance teams, along with the GECAS European sales team. It helps manage and service a fleet of over 1,800 owned and managed commercial aircraft for over 250 customers internationally. GECAS, a unit of GE Capital, is headquartered in Stamford, CT, USA and has offices in 24 global cities. GE employs more than 300,000 people worldwide. Shannon Engine Support (SES) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of CFM International (CFM). CFM is a 50/50 joint company between Snbecma Moteurs and GE, which produces the world’s best-selling commercial engine product line, the CFM56 family.

Aldus Aviation movesglobal HQ to Westpark

International aircraft leasing company, Aldus AviationLimited, is relocating its global head office to WestparkBusiness Campus.The Irish-based company specialises in providing operating leases for the Embraer E-Jet range of aircraft (70-120 seat) produced by Embraer, the world’s third largestaircraft manufacturer after Airbus and Boeing. Aldus is the third largest Regional Jetlessor in the world after GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS) and BAe AssetManagement. Aldus also works with GECAS under a comprehensive LeaseManagement Agreement.

In addition, Aldus Aviation provides a range of independent advisory services inrelation to strategic, commercial, operational and equipment choices. Through itsaircraft fund, the company is also able to offer funding opportunities in Embraer E-Jetsto investors and lenders.

Westpark Business Campus wasthe focal point recently for ahighly significant initiative aimedat forging close commercial linksbetween regions on both sides ofthe Atlantic.A high-powered delegation fromJacksonville/Northeast Florida, one of the mostsuccessful business areas of the world, met atWestpark with key movers and influencersfrom Atlantic Way, a region of excellence thathas the Galway-Limerick/Shannon axis as itscentral corridor.

The Florida region’s experience in forging

private/public partnerships across variousinterests has become a benchmark for regionalcommunities throughout the world looking toenhance their economic prospects.

While at Westpark, the delegation led by JohnPeyton, Mayor, City of Jacksonville, made anumber of presentations and held discussionswith various interests from the Atlantic WayRegion.

These included representatives of SMEs,multinationals, education, state and publicsector bodies, Chambers of Commerce andother groupings. The Shannon event was alsoattended by Noel Dempsey, T.D., Minister forTransport.

During their visit, the Jacksonville delegationhad earlier participated in two Atlantic Wayevents at GMIT and NUIG in Galway thatfocused on SME networking and Education,Research and Innovation respectively.

“It was a real pleasure for us in WestparkShannon to host the visit of the prestigiousJacksonville delegation and theCornerstone Regional DevelopmentPartnership(www. jacksonvillechamber.org), on behalfof all the membership of The Atlantic Way,”said Brian O’Connell, Chairman of TheAtlantic Way & MD of Westpark Shannon.

He added: “What was most inspiring was thefocus, tenacity and value for money thatJacksonville gets from its enterprise organi-sation, and how we can learn quickly andimprove our business strike rate.

“The opportunities for partnership dealsbetween ourselves and Florida in bothmaritime and air logistics, in education andtraining for aviation and aerospace industries,in the health sciences, and in new clean greenindustries, are immense. It is up to us now tomaximise those opportunities and create newbusinesses together.”

The Jacksonville delegation visit was part of anongoing series of linkages being forged byAtlantic Way with forward-thinking regions ofthe world.

Westpark Shannon is to figure prominently in moves todevelop closer ties between Silicon Valley companies and theAtlantic Way region of the West of Ireland, thanks to a newagreement signed recently.

The Irish Technology Leadership Group (ITLG), comprised of high-leveltechnology leaders in Silicon Valley who are Irish or Irish-American, isopening an office at Westpark under the agreement.

The Westpark office will promote the existing technology-related strengthsof the Shannon Region. It will seek to link established and new start-ups inthe region with leading and emerging companies in California. ITLGalready has offices in Dublin and Belfast.

Brian O’Connell, Managing Director, Westpark Shannon and Chairman ofAtlantic Way, said that this initiative is especially timely. “It highlights theattraction of the Shannon Region as a low-cost, high-contribution centrefor U.S. companies wishing to develop their global enterprise modelsthrough a presence in Europe,” he said.

The Limerick-born Chairman of ITLG, John Hartnett, who is CEO of theCardiff-based G24i Technology Group, emphasised the importance of

innovation for Ireland in the current difficult global economic climate. “I am very excited that the opening of this new office will greatly assist inthat process. It will act as a conduit for contacts between major U.S.technology corporations and Irish enterprises,” he added.

Full U.S. pre-clearance at Shannonopens up many opportunitiesShannon International Airport is to become the first airport in Europe to offer fullpre-clearance facilities for passengers entering the U.S. from this summer.Airlines and passengers will be able to pre-clear all formalities for U.S. Immigration, Customs and Agriculture at a newcustom-built facility at Shannon.

This move has the potential to establish the Airport, beside Westpark Business Campus, as an international aviation gatewaybetween Europe and the U.S.

Congratulating the Irish Government and Shannon Airport management for concluding the historic agreement with the U.S.Government, Brian O’Connell, Managing Director, Westpark and Chairman of Atlantic Way, said it has the potential to openup many new opportunities.

“This facility should encourage more business and corporate interests to use Shannon as their gateway to the U.S., therebyoffering an opportunity for valuable spin-off exposure for, not just the airport itself but, the whole West of Ireland,” headded.
