Funding for these proj- ects is provided from the Saskatchewan Agricul- ture Development Fund (ADF) and is part of a re- cord $20.4 million provin- cial agriculture research budget in 2012-13, which is an increase of more than 50 per cent since 2007. More than $57 mil- lion in research project funding has been pro- vided through ADF since 2007. This ADF project fund- ing will help to leverage additional third party funding of more than $8.4 million. The “Kernels of Hope” program is afliated with the Cana- dian Food Grains Bank and donations to it result in a matching donation of four dollars to every one dollar by the Canadian International Development Agency. “This resulted in a total donation of $88,840,” says Fallon Hudye of Hudye Soil Services, who plays a big part in the “Helping Feed the World” project. “The amount donated is to be direct- ed into programs that provide food for those that are in dire need and for the purchase of seed and tools to help farm in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)”, explains Ray Baloun of Minnedosa, Manitoba; who began the Kernels of Hope Program in Norquay, seven years ago. Winning the Lower Denture Challenge

Unlike an upper denture, a lower denture is seldom held in place by suction creating a challenge for many denture wearers. We can now offer an easy and affordable solution to this challenge!

By having as little as two dental implants placed in the lower jaw, you can receive a denture which “snaps” on and secures to the dental implants allowing you to once again eat your favorite foods in comfort and confi dence.

• Do you lack confi dence while speaking?• Do you suffer with sore dentures that move around?• Do you have diffi culty chewing or unable to eat certain

foods?

Would you like to improve your oral health, ability to eat, appearance and self esteem?

Hundreds of our patients are successfully wearing a lower denture… And you can too!

“A big thank you goes out to Ferris & Lindgren Farms, Leis Farms, Ken Lozinski, Crystal Lake Farming Co., Lakeside Farms – Steven Toffan, Justin Toffan and Scott Effa, Krywy Farms, Hudye Farms Inc., Fe-land Farms and Naha-chewsky Farms for step-ping up to the challenge and supporting such a wonderful cause.

“Global news has nev-er before highlighted the major problems of hun-ger and access to food as much as they are today. When those concerns arise, producers are ex-cited to take the chal-lenge and incorporate all the available research to maximize yields and productivity to meet in-creasing demands for food.

“A difference is be-ing made right in our own backyard, here in Norquay, Saskatche-wan.”

Calder School has an-nounced it will be start-ing an archery program thanks to the World of Whitetail’s generous do-nation of archery equip-ment. Rick Stadnek delivered the school’s equipment on Friday, Nov. 16 to a very excited group of students. The package, worth ap-proximately $4,500, con-tains everything neces-sary to start the program. In anticipation of the arrival of the archery equipment, the school had two staff members, two parents and one com-munity member, who is also a substitute teacher, trained in the NASP pro-gram to enable them to teach the students. Archery is a program that easily fi ts into any school physical education curriculum and teaches patience, focus, control and respect to name a few. Many schools are in-cluding archery in their curriculum. The students and staff want to thank the World of Whitetail for providing a great start to a great program. The World of Whitetail is a non-profi t, Saskatchewan, organiza-tion based out of Regina. WOW has good objectives for its organization includ-ing providing outdoor op-portunities for youth and

Ursa Major Gold, Silver and Coin will be back in Yorkton on January 18th and 19th during a roadshow making its way through Saskatchewan. You can bring your gold, silver & coinds to the Gallagher Centre between 10 am and 6 pm each day. No appointment is required. Barry Dick is a precious metals buyer and President of Ursa Major Gold, Silver & Coin. Ursa Ma-jor hails from Richmond, BC but Dick has his roots in Winkler.

“Ursa Major has the unique advan-tage of dealing direct with a smelter” said Dick. “That allows us to cut out one or even two middlemen. Ursa Ma-jor purchases gold and silver from oth-er gold buyers, pawn shops, jewellers and jewellery makers as well as from the general public.” Recent price in-creases of precious metals have creat-ed lots of “gold buyers” including mail in companies. Many of those buyers offer pennies on the dollar to unsus-pecting customers and are limited to what they buy, choosing to ignore sil-ver and coins and only purchase gold.

“Better Business Bureau complaints about mail in gold companies are ex-tremely high, but it is hard to regu-late. My advice is that you do NOT mail your precious metals to anyone you haven’t met or spoken with at length” says Dick.

Ursa Major analyzes your gold, sil-ver and coins while you watch, with the process explained to you in detail. Any coins with numismatic value will be set aside from those with a ‘melt’ value. Silver items such as jewellery, flatware and serving trays will be analyzed for hallmark identification. Items thought to contain gold will also be analyzed for hallmarks, and then confirmed using precise testing that is done while you watch. Then a cash offer is made and you decide to sell or not.

Dick took out his first gold claim when he turned 16 in the 1970’s and has been involved with precious met-als ever since. An ardent gold panner, he was a regular at the world champi-onship gold panning competition with a personal best of 3rd place in 1984. Now he concentrates on building the wholesale business with jewellers and brokers while taking the roadshow out one or two times a month across West-ern Canada.

“People bring in all kinds of interest-ing items, but for the most part it is a broken or old chain, unloved jewelry, a single earring, and out of fashion items like charm bracelets. We also ac-cept dental gold but it should be clean. Lately I see more and more silver flat-ware sets, but before you bring those in please make sure it says “Sterling” on the handles. There is a lot of silver plated flatware that we can’t buy due to the low silver content” says Dick. Another valuable item is coins with silver content. Dimes, Quarters, Half Dollars and Dollars from Canada and

America can be sorted and the silver content determined in no time at all. People are encouraged to bring in any and all coins for assessment.Ursa Major also has extensive experi-ence and working with estate sales, executors, widows and widowers in a respectful and caring manner. Ursa Major Gold, Silver & Coin will be at the Gallagher Centre in Yorkton on Friday, January 18th and Saturday, January 19th from 10 am to 6 pm. No appointment necessary.
