Message from your PresidentMessage from your PresidentMessage from your PresidentMessage from your President Dear members of Palathinkal Kudumbayogam, After an eventful year, we entered the New Year with lots of hope and enthusiasm. I sincerely pray and wish the new year will bring us happiness, health and contentment to all.

At the executive committee meeting held in September 2009, we had tentatively decided to convene the next executive committee meeting at Ernakulam. But due to some unforeseen reasons, it did not materialise. Instead, during November end we met at the Annex of Kottayam Club at Kumarakom, where unfortunately the attendance was poor. However, the short time we had at our disposal on that day, being a Sunday, was usefully utilised for discussions on matters of common interest for our family. Even though it was suggested we should again meet in the New Year during February/March, we could not meet as some of the office bearers had some inconveniences. We are planning to meet in April, but it could be after releasing this Vartha Pathrika. Since November 2009, five of our family members passed away. They are listed under Obituary. In total, Palathinkal Kudumbayogam lost 14 of their family members this year. This is an irreparable loss. I extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. After November 2009, when I addressed you through our Vartha Pathrika, we received some valuable contributions from our members, both seniors and youngsters, for our Endowment Fund. It is listed later in this issue. My sincere thanks to all those who have contributed. I am sure many more members will come forward and contribute liberally in the days to come and make our dreams come true. We wish to give Annual Merit Awards to deserving students of C.M.S High School and Baker Memorial School also, where our elder pioneers had studied, when English education was a God sent opportunity. We are planning to have our next Annual General Meeting on the 1st of May 2010 at Palathinkal Buildings (residence of Valsa Isaac Palat), T.B.Junction, M.C.Road, Kottayam from morning till evening. You will later receive detailed invitation notice. We will have the Holy Communion Service at the Kodimatha Prayer Hall at 8.00 am followed by meeting, lunch and entertainment programmes. We are also planning to release Palathinkal Kudumbacharithram in CD form, with all changes and additions to the printed version released last year. I request all our members to attend the proceedings with their families and make our coming together a memorable one. We plan to have indoor games and variety entertainments. Members are requested to come prepared and display their talents. Senior members (who completed 80 years this year), academic achievers and newly married couples of our Kudumbayogam will be honoured during the meeting. Kindly let us have the names and details of all those who are in the above categories. I look forward to meet you all on 1st May 2010, when you come with your family for our Annual General Meeting. At this meeting, we discussed about raising funds for our endowment schemes and also how best we can utilise the talents of our members for betterment of the society. Even though we tentatively decided to meet again in February/March 2010, we could not meet due to unavailability and inconvenience of some of the office bearers. We will meet soon and make detailed plans for our Annual General Meeting scheduled on 1st May 2010, at Palathinkal Building, Kottayam. Please mark the whole day of 1st May for our meeting. All the members are requested to attend the meeting with their families and make it a big success.

You can also collect it during our Annual General Meeting on 1st May 2010. KUDUBACHARITHRAM IN CD We are happy to announce that our Palathinkal Kudumbacharithra in CD form is getting ready. Data of 2009-10 is also covered in it. The CD is expected to be very user friendly and most useful for our younger generation. It will be worthwhile to have a copy for all your children and grand children. Please buy them in plenty for all members of your family, when you come for Annual General Meeting on 1st May 2010. Obituary (Nov 09 – March 10)

P.O.Isaac (Baby) (PL.1.2.2.1.4), Palathinkal, Ernakulam expired on 25th November 09. Funeral was held on 26th

November at Jerusalem Church, Kottayam. Baby was a senior member of Ernakulam Palatines and a guiding spirit in

the formation of our Kudumbayogam. Baby is survived by wife Molly and sons Jikku Isaac, Laloo Isaac and Saju

P.I.Ipe (Joy) (PL.1.2.2.2.1), Palathinkal, Kalamassery, Cochin expired on 27th December 2009. Funeral was held on the

same day. His wife Rachel died earlier in this year.

Isaac Kurian (Pappachen) (KL. 1.1.1.1.4.1 ), Kollamparambil, died on 26th Jan 10. Funeral was held on 27th Jan 10 at

Anchery Christos Marthoma Church, Anchery. Pappachen is survived by wife Kunjamma and Children Sajan,

Capt.A.I.Ipe (Joy) (AR.12.2.1.1), Arackal, died on 10-2-2010 at Cochin. Funeral was held on 11-2-2010 at Jerusalem

Marthoma Church, Kottayam. Capt.Ipe is survived by wife Chellamma and children Mohan, Shyla and Lyla.

Mrs.Sarah Mathew George (PL.1.2.2.3.3) (Nany) wife of late Dr.Mathew George (Baby) died on 12th March 2010.

Funeral was held on 13th March 10, at C.S.I. Immanuel Church Cemetery at Semitherymukku, Cochin. Nany is

survived by daughters Mini, Susan and Sherrin.

Lisa, daughter of Latha Alex Kurian (AR.1.2.2.1.2.2) and Alexander Kurian (Thampi) of Puthenpurackal, T.D.Road, Ernakulam and Jaison, son of George C.Moolayil and Kumari of Moolayil house, Changanassery got married on 27th December 09 at Little Flower Church, Elamkulam, Ernakulam. Biju (AR.1.3.3.2.3.1), son of Babu Ipe and Babymol of Arackal, Manganam, Kottayam and Sini, daughter of Rajan Idiculla and Saro of Kirikkattu Nest, Venmani got married on 16th January 2010 at Jerusalem Marthoma Church, Kottayam. Asha Elizabeth Joseph (AR.1.3.3.3.1.2), daughter of Babu Joseph and Sally, Arackal, Kottayam got married to Arun Paul, son of Paul Francis and Chechamma of Chazhoor House, Thoppil, Ernakulam on 25th January 2010.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT ……… LOVE: Love enriches the soul, brings gladness to the heart and affirms life is sacred. All unequal partnerships to become balanced, or they disintegrate. To love means – to be vulnerable to the negatives and positives – to heartache, unhappiness and disillusionment as well as to

bliss, happiness and achievement. Reverse of love is indifference and fear is at the heart of indifference. Courage is born of love. Jealousy is a disease, while love is a healthy condition. The love that makes demands is, in reality,

fear. Genuine love goes on for ever. Grief, tragedy and hatred are only temporary. Goodness, remembrances and love have no

end. Do not fear about fear. Rather allow the love within you to conquer your fear.

Butter Chicken

For Tandoori Chicken: Ingredients Chicken 1, cut into 20 pcs Lime juice – 1 dsp Salt

Garlic – 10 flakes Ginger – 1” pc Chilly Powder – 1 tbsp Jeera Powder – ½ tsp Tandoori orange red colour – ¼ tsp

Melted Butter – 2 tbsp Curd – ¼ cup Clean the Chicken, cut into pieces and dry it with a cloth. Make some shallow cuts or prick with a fork. Rub in salt and lime juice. Keep aside for ½ hr. Grind the masala, add to the melted butter, curd and colouring. Marinate the chicken pieces with this mixture for 3-4 hrs. Bake for ½ hr, turn over and bake till done.

For Butter Chicken: Ingredients Tandoori Chicken – 1 kg Onion minced fine – 4 Ginger paste - 2 tbsp Garlic paste – 2 tbsp Kashmiri Chilly Powder – 3 tbsp Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp Garam Masala – 1 ½ tsp Tomato puree of 2 big ones Butter – 3 tbsp Water – 1 ½ cup Oil – 2 tbsp Tomato sauce – 3 tbsp Coriander leaves – ¼ cup Nuts – 100 gms Kasoori methi - ½ tsp Cream – ½ cup Salt - to taste Pour oil an saute minced onions. Add Ginger and Garlic paste. Add the masalas and saute again. Blanch the Tomatos and puree them. Add the Tomato puree to the above said mixture and saute. Add 1 ½ cup of water, add the chicken pieces, salt and cook. Add Tomato sauce, coriander leaves and Kasoori methi. When almost done, add the nuts (soaked and ground to a paste). Take it off the fire when done, add butter and cream and serve.
