Literacy and New Literacy
The traditional definition of literacy is the ability to read and write. (New Oxford American Dictionary)
New literacy can consist of different types of media like television, video chats, and the internet.
Television
Usually television is used as a source of entertainment or news, but it can also be used for education.
Cable offers channels that are educational like the History Channel, Discovery Channel, Discovery Kids, and many others.
The downside is that not everyone can afford cable television.

Different cable companies offer packaging deals like cable and high speed internet Comcast offers cable for

Video and the Classroom
Online classes have been steadily taking over the education system
Video technologies have helped to make this an easier method of education, while making the online classroom more successful.
Teachers can video chat with their students through a number of free programs Skype, iChat, Oovoo
Another way teachers can incorporate video to a classroom is through instructional videos
Teachers can record videos of themselves and put the videos on their websites for the students to access when they need them Vimeo could be used or
the teacher could create a YouTube channel for the class
Internet
Internet is used for many different things. For one internet is used for entertainment and research.
Another important thing that internet is important for is the ability to communicate with our peers through instant chats.
There are many different sites that help both students and teachers gain better knowledge on a better subject. It also helps teachers make a lesson plan better.
Some downsides of the internet is that you have to have a internet ready phone or a computer to use. These products are very pricy.

provide the internet for you but they will also make you have their cable TV services as well

EarthLink
Wi-Fi is the most popular and these are sold by cable companies to their providers
