Be sure to check out the info for our February meeting regarding the workshop that is going to be held. It sounds terrific and it’s always so much fun to learn something new. THE PRESIDENT’S PIECE

Thanks to everyone who braved the cold to come to the January meeting. Wasn’t it fun to gamble with fabric and maybe hit the jackpot!

We had 3 new members in January isn’t that great, lets make them feel welcome.

I started working on a block of the month from 2 years ago so maybe I will finish it. Notice I said maybe.

Be sure to check out the info for our February meeting regarding the workshop that is going to be held. It sounds terrific and it’s always so much fun to learn something new.

Come early for the warm ups as there’s always something new and they are also doing a different block each month so at the end of the year you will have enough to make a quilt. So come and check it out.

Some were asking for the Sadie’s Dream For A Cure website so here it is www.SadiesDreamforaCure.org--very worthwhile. The totes are very easy to make and pattern is very

well written. It’s a good community service project. (Editor’s note: Lynn Heeren provided kits at the Quilt Show, [email protected], or 815-235-9369.)

Remember if you’re not doing the workshop you can still come for the Bee at 1, there’s always a potluck at 5:30 and the food is great.

In closing I came across this recipe so I thought I would share it with everyone.

WARM UPS

For February Warm-ups we will add half square triangles to our nine patch block. You will be amazed at the variety one change can make in the block. In addition to the block demonstration, we will also explore several ways to make half square triangles. Don't miss the continuing adventure of the nine patch. We are still looking for your great warm-up ideas. Email or call Diane Lohr [email protected] or 815-335-4044 or Val Olson [email protected] with your ideas for future warm-ups.

Country Crossroads Quilt Guild Minutes

January 21, 2013

The meeting was called to order by President Deb Ley at 7:00 p. m. Twenty-nine members signed an attendance sheet for roll call. This included three new members. The minutes and the treasurer’s report from the 2012 November meeting were approved as written. There was no formal program, instead the “Quilter’s gambling” game was played. The executive board had a 5:00 p.m. meeting.

Old Business: Treasurer Chyree Rohde-Lincoln reported 2012 had 85 paid members. Thus far 2013 had 50 paid members on the sign-in sheet. If your name was not on the sheet you have yet to pay 2013 dues. Susan Murges and Ann Tully explained the service project for 2013 using Nickel Squares and a pattern from Better Homes & Garden Magazine, American Patchwork and Quilting, issue # 119, December 2012. The Constitution Committee consists of Bernie Bird, Kathy Clark, and Carole Robeson. Ruth Whitney volunteered to help Beth Kalbfus with updates to our pictorial directory. There is a sewing Bee session starting at 1:00 p.m. before each meeting and ending at 5:30 p.m. with a dish to pass potluck unless otherwise announced.

New Business: Chyree Rohde-Lincoln elaborated on the future need of a Tax ID Number (TIN) for the group. We will discuss more about this in the future. Nina Mueller will be responsible for seeing that our bookmarks are restocked and updated with the guild’s web

address. The executive board will meet at 6:00 p.m. in the months of January, March, May, July, September and November.

FEBRUARY WORKSHOP:

Our February Workshop will be Quilter’s General Store Denise Rehnberg’s class on the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star Pattern “Constellation.” Deb Tucker has developed a strip piecing method for constructing the traditional Lemoyne Star block using her incredible Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star tool. There are no “Y” seams and every block is intentionally built slightly oversized so that a final trim down results in perfectly sized blocks. The pattern for “Constellation” is the complementary pattern that comes with the tool. This pattern is a stunning wall hanging (37” x 37”) that uses all 10 star sizes produced by the tool.

Workshop time will be 1 pm to 4 pm. Workshop fee is $20. Denise is offering a 15% discount on the required ruler for this class, the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star Tool for $25. Additionally she is offering discounted fabric kits for this workshop; Traditional fabrics kit at $62 and

FEBRUARY PROGRAM:

Our program for the February meeting will feature Denise Rehnberg from Quilter’s General Store in Rockford. Being a brand new shop owner, Denise will be sharing with us some interesting experiences and learning she has encountered with her introduction to the world of quilt retail! This will be a good chance to get to know Denise and what her plans are for the shop in the future.

MARCH PROGRAM:

Our March program will be "Orphan Blocks with Sentimental Endings" presented by Eileen Daniels. Eileen is a quilt artist, teacher and lecturer from Brodhead, Wisconsin. You won't want to miss this one! More details on this program will follow in our March newsletter. In the meantime, you can check out Eileen's talents at www.danielsstudios.com.

General Notes and Reminders

Refreshments: There are two containers in the back room of the church that contain paper supplies for refreshments and other guild items. These supplies have been purchased by the guild and are intended for this use. Please check this container before you purchase any new paper products. And: The church has asked that we put away the tables and chairs that we take out of the back room for our meetings. Anyone who could stay a few extra minutes after the meetings to help do this would be greatly appreciated. Also: We need to keep the kitchen clean, so please clean up after yourself. The refreshment committee is supposed to take the garbage out to the dumpster after the meeting, so please make sure you’ve tossed your trash before then. Boutique: At each meeting, we will set up a table to hold any quilt related boutique items you wish to sell or give away. Have the price clearly marked and put your name on everything so that the buyer can pay you (it sometimes helps to have an envelope with your name on it to put the money in).
