SANTA CLARITA VALLEY QUILT GUILD
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGEFall has begun!! Leaves are starting to fall from my neighbor’s BIG Sycamore tree and making a huge mess in my yard! But it is all good…the days will become cooler and we will be looking for all those quilts we have been working on this very hot summer. Now is the time to finish them up.
We had a great game night. Quilter’s Bingo and Quilter’s Strip Poker were played. Just Bunts mini cakes and fat quarter stacks were prizes for bingo. Jean Carter was the winner of the Strip Poker game and won a $25 gift card to Joann’s, a mini Bunt cake and the opportunity to chair game night next year!! Can’t wait to see what she and her group do next year! We play Strip Poker with 2 ½” strips of fabric that was cut from our donations from Candy’s Quilt Shop. The fabric was then donated back to community service. Approximately 600 plus strips are now available for more project kits for community service. A big thanks to Candy’s for making it all possible.
We have a great guild. What makes it great are the members! Thanks for making my job easier by stepping up and helping. If now is not the time to hold a position that is OK…help out for a couple of meetings a few hours when the opportunity quilt is on theroad to another location, at a workshop, hospitality, community service or ways and means table…make a basket for ways and means or donate quilting supplies, notions etc. Block of the month needs members to sew tops together, quilt or bind the beautiful quilts your blocks are making. An extra hand is always needed and appreciated.
A hardy welcome to new members!!
Thanks again,
Joyce Wilkinson

PROGRAMS
It’s time for us to emphasize some handwork – like our foremothers did! This month, we welcome back Lola Newman from Stitchin’ by the River to do a trunk show and an
embroidery workshop for us using her fascinating Civil War era blackwork patterns. InNovember, Margarete Heinisch from the Valley Quilt Guild will be here with a trunk show, lecture and workshop on applique techniques. You have to see her work to believe it!
Workshops:
On October 12th, Lola Newman will be helping us improve our embroidery skills using her patterns for Civil War era Blackwork. There are still spots available in this class. Our November 16th workshop will be applique – so, a couple of opportunities to improve your handwork!!
Keep on Quilting!

Ways to Participate:

MINI QUILT CHALLENGE FOR THE 2020 QUILT SHOW
Hey, all you fabulous quilters, new and experienced! We, co-chairs Penny and
Gabrielle, are beginning the first of two mini-quilt challenges. All entries will be
displayed at the 2020 Show. It’s not too late to join this first one.
What is a quilt challenge? We tell you the parameters, and you go for it! Now
remember, this is a challenge with prizes, PRIZES!, at the end, so do something
beautiful. (No new car, sorry…)
The first challenge is a placemat, 14” by 19” raw measurements, that is, before binding
(but the binding won’t increase the placemat by much). You will choose and use 2
colors only. It must have a binding, no raw edges, and no embellishments (i.e,,
beading). It is due promptly at the November meeting, and all will be displayed and
judged at the December meeting. You may make 1, 2, or a max of 3, but only one
award will be given per person. Placemats will be donated to the Senior Center after
the 2020 Show (for those who don’t mind).
Please join the fun. It doesn’t matter how inexperienced you are, just go for it! And
what’s the second challenge? More info coming soon.
