to grow are present in it.
It is used widely as a
stimulant free energy drink.
From Recent Market Reports…
New Nutrition Business has just published a
report hailing coconut water as “the fast-
growing new category”, with retail sales
already above $450m worldwide.
Coconut water is set to redefine the sports
drinks market after Coca-Cola and PepsiCo
both putting their weight behind the new
niche last year.

Nutrients in Coconut Water
Ref: Contributions from Boyce Thompson Institute, 21:115-128.
Coconut water is rich in proteins,
amino-acids, sugars, vitamins,

Coconut water is described as an isotonic sports
drink.
Mineral contents of Coconut water are given below

RNA-P/DNA-P RATIOThe RNA-phosphorus (RNA-P) content of coconut water was found to be
consistently high.
The role of RNA in amino acid transport and respiratory metabolism of
living cells is well known.
Contributions from Boyce Thompson Institute, 21:115-128.
Coconut water works at cellular level
20
Cytokinins are a class of plant hormones.
When cytokinins are present, the cells can then replicate
to form a perfect copy of its DNA.
If they are not present, imperfect cells are formed
resulting in future chronic illnesses.
Coconut water contains concentrated amounts of these
Cytokinins.
21
A major cytokinin found in coconut milk was
isolated using a standard procedure, the
tobacco callus growth promoting assay. The
structure was determined to be a complex
trans-zeatin riboside (G3A2-ZR).
The authors of this study attributed at least
20% of the cytokinin activity in coconut milk
to this compound.
22
Cytokinins is a class of plant growth
substances (plant hormones) active in
promoting cell division.
They are also involved in cell growth and
differentiation and other physiological
processes.

Lauriforte ®
26
The genesis of Lauriforte®
Coconut oil is found to have a lot of beneficial
effects on the skin and body.
The main issue was its cosmeceutical non-
acceptance due to its poor drying and greasy
nature.
With focused research, Sami Labs, overcame
these problems with its Lauriforte®.
27
Lauriforte®
Lauriforte® is the registered trademark of
Sabinsa Group .
It is the Lauric Acid enriched fraction of
Coconut Oil.
It is non-greasy with versatile applications in
cosmetics.
28
Lauriforte ® – The Hair Care
Cosmeceutical
Prevents combing damage to various hair types.
Provides nourishment to the hair.
Has excellent penetration to the hair shaft and
follicles.
Provides protection against hygral fatigue of the
hair.

Cococin® Sami Labs has developed a research based product
from coconut.
Cococin® is tender coconut water concentrated under
carefully controlled conditions.
It is available as a free- flowing powder or a syrupy
liquid.
Cococin® is rich in carbohydrates, amino acids and
natural salts.

Cococin® Composition
Two Probable Mechanisms Of Cell Growth
Promotion By Cococin™
Coconut water is used as a nutrient medium in plant
tissue culture.
Several inherent constituents like Organic Alycyclic
Acids, high RNA phosphorus content & Cytokinins are
reported to be responsible for the growth promoting
actions.
Freeze-drying under controlled conditions ensures that
the solids retain optimum biological activity.

Clinical Study Age Defying Complex
22 healthy female volunteers, in the age group 20-35 years.
Cream base containing 1% Cococin (& other natural ingredients) was applied on the left arm, and cream base was applied to the right arm.
 Duration: 8 weeks.
 Parameters Measured:
%reduction in skin roughness parameters
% reduction in skin elasticity
The skin roughness was measured using the Skin Visiometer .
The skin elasticity was measured using the Cutometer.

Wound Healing and Fibroblast
The arrival of fibroblasts cells into the wound, heralds the healing process.
Eventually, these Fibroblasts become the dominant cell type, during healing process.
As the Fibroblasts proliferate, the keratinocyte and endothelial cell populations are also stimulated to increase their numbers.
Thus an active, which promotes the proliferation of Fibroblasts has good wound healing potential.

Study Report by Sami Labs Limited
Cococin® vs Foetal bovine serum
37
Cococin™ was shown to promote the proliferation of fibroblasts and hence can be
inferred to have good wound healing potential.
38
In view of the role of coconut water
solids in supporting cell growth,
Cococin® may be used in applications
to support the growth of human
tissues such as hair follicles.
39
The product may therefore be used
in hair care formulations and in
rejuvenative topical preparations.
Cococin®, a Natural cell-growth promoter has
been evaluated for its efficacy as a hair
growth promoter, in comparison with
Minoxidil as standard.
The study was conducted at Dabur Research
Foundation, New Delhi.

Cococin ™ in Hair Growth
Hair growth promoters are known to
potentiate the transition of Telogen phase
(Shedding Phase) to Anagen phase (Growth
Phase).
This is manifested by increase in follicle count
in subcutis, increase in skin thickness and
graying of the pink skin.

MonoLaurin

47
MonoLaurin
• MCTs are well recognized for their antimicrobial properties since antiquity.
• Lauric acid, a MCT present in good concentrations in coconuts, forms MonoLaurin in the body.
• MonoLaurin is reported to significantly inhibit the growth of pathogenic microbes.
• In vitro, MonoLaurin’s effects mirrored Origanum oil in inhibiting S. aureus.
MCT content in Coconut
• Fresh coconut / unrefined or Virgin Coconut oil is highly
saturated; over 85 - 90% of its fat content is saturated.
• Saturated fatty acids may be (a) short chain – 2, 3 or 4 carbon
atoms (b) medium chain – 6, 8, 10 or 12 carbon atoms (c) long
chain – 16 or more carbon atoms.
• About 60 - 70% of the fatty acids in coconut oil are 12 carbon
atoms or shorter, thus making it a rich source of MCTs.
• Coconut oil is high in lauric acid (12 carbon atoms) and contains
trace amounts of caprylic acid (8 carbon atoms).

Benefits of Coconut MCTs
Coconut medium chain fatty acids can have beneficial roles to play
in human health.
• Reduce body fat mass by inhibiting the expression of fat-
generating genes in nuclear DNA.
• Increase the sensitivity of body tissues to insulin. This effect can
help address the problem of the pre-diabetic state known as
Syndrome X or Metabolic Syndrome.
• Boost a person’s overall energy level.
• Increase whole body metabolic rate.
• Support a weight management regimen.
• Ability to provide the brain with an alternate source of energy

Due to their longstanding safety record,
Origanum and/or MonoLaurin, alone or
combined with antibiotics,
“might prove useful in the prevention and
treatment of severe bacterial infections,
especially those that are difficult to treat
and/or are antibiotic resistant.”

al., Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, D.C. 20057
