NATURE CONSORTIUM 2013 Annual Report

At Nature Consortium, our mission is simple. We connect people, arts, and nature.

From the classroom to the field, we create opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate their creativity, nurture local habitat, and become leaders in their communities.

Nature Consortium’s Urban Forest Restoration Program is committed to restoring habitat in Seattle’s largest remaining forest, the West Duwamish Greenbelt. All year round, we engage volunteers of all ages in hands-on environmental learning to build healthy communities and ecosystems from the ground up.

“Nature Consortium has given me so much confidence. When I first started volunteering I assumed I’d just be pulling weeds or planting plants, but almost from day one they have challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and become a leader.”

- Liz Stone, volunteer

Nature Consortium’s Youth Art Program offers a unique blend of arts and environmental education for low-income youth in Seattle. Our classes foster discovery and creativity while connecting youth with the natural world in their neighborhoods and beyond.

“My mom introduced me and my brother to the art classes instead of staying home and playing video games all summer. It’s really fun, and I like to do art, so we just keep coming back.”

- Yosun, age 11

The Arts in Nature Festival exists at the nexus of art, nature, and community. Our founding project, this festival is a unique experience of ecclectic art and performance in the woods of Seattle’s only camp ground.
