cooking with Star Anise. Year 1
have successfully completed their
first swimming lesson – all the
adults came back saying how
brilliant they all were. Thank you
Year 1. Year 6 are set to build their
Goblin racing go-karts after raising
nearly £900 towards them. Their
first race is towards the end of
May and we are lucky to have a
couple of Dyson Engineers coming in
to help!
A big thank you to Mrs Purchase
and Mrs Wingfield who spent many
days of the Easter holidays helping
to put the brand new sound and
lighting system into the school hall.
We now have a fantastic £10,000
system all linked together and easy
to use! We look forward to the
Drama Club’s first performance
with the new equipment in a few
weeks time with their performance
of Poptastic. Tickets available now
for the two nights.
The new clubs list is out today,
please encourage your children to
join in and try as many clubs as
possible. There are also many
opportunities to represent the
school during the summer so do get
along to the clubs.
Our next Parent Forum is on the
29th April at 2.45pm where we will
provide an update on the Food
Education Project, including the
lunch menus, plus also take the
chance to agree some guideline for
healthy packed lunch boxes. There
will be a chance to raise other
topics or concerns. All Parents are
welcome to come along and the
Governors and I look forward to
working with you.
The children have been challenged
this weekend to practise service in
the kitchen at home; learning to
wash up, lay the table, fill the dish

Our Christian Values this term will focus on:
Service
It has been lovely seeing everyone
since the Easter break. We have had
an energetic start to the summer
term with lots of children taking up
the challenge of running a marathon
over the next 13 weeks – some
children are attempting the
ultra-marathon, a whopping 100 miles!
Thanks to an idea from Finley in
Year 3, some children are taking home
a marathon record sheet to add the
miles they run at home, so if you wish
to join in please ask for a sheet. A
number of children are getting a few
laps in at the start and end of the day
– please make sure that your children
are safe when crossing the car park
at this time as this is the normal
route of the track. For those unsure -
four laps make a mile!
Our Christian value this term is
Service – we have been learning about
the person who has the greatest
talent or skill, whatever that may be.
That person should become the
servant by teaching others and giving
what they have. We are, therefore,
looking at who is using their talents to
help others and I am looking forward
to giving out many Service badges
this term. Please remember that if
your son or daughter demonstrates
any of the school values at home,
please let us know and we are more
than happy to present them with a
badge in school. They can
demonstrate the value in relation to
themselves, others around them or
through contributing to the
community or world.
This term Year 3 and Year 4 will be
part of a pilot project around
Mindfulness - the ability to be a
master of that crazy little voice that
constantly yaps away in our mind and
our reactions to life – great life skills
to have! Year 2 will enjoy a musical
project with Groove On and will begin
washer, empty the dish washer, clean and
chop the veg, make a cake! Have fun!
Have a great weekend, enjoy the running!
Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th Birthday Beacons
Invitation to Attend the Lighting of North Cheltenham’s Beacon, Pittville Pump Room, East Approach Dr,
Cheltenham GL52 3JE.
Thursday, 21st April. 8.00pm for 8.20pm – 9pm
During the evening of Thursday, 21st April, Cheltenham will be joining over a thousand other towns, villages and communities throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and a Commonwealth Country in lighting beacons to celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. HRH The Prince of Wales will invite Her Majesty The Queen to light the Principal Beacon at Windsor Castle. This will be followed by the lighting of other beacons at Windsor, followed by the lighting of beacons at the top of the four highest peaks
in the UK at 7.15pm.
Led by the Mayor of Cheltenham, Councillor Duncan Smith, the lighting of Cheltenham’s beacon for the north of the town will take place at The Pittville Pump Room at 8.30pm,
preceded by a short ceremony at 8.20pm.
On behalf of The Trustees of the Cheltenham Trust, I am delighted to extend a warm invitation to join us in celebrating this historic occasion in the beautiful surroundings of The Pittville Pump Room and Pittville Park.
The Pittville Pump Room bar will be open during the event and light refreshments will be available. I look forward to seeing you on the 21st April, at what promises to be a memorable and special event. Yours faithfully,

Monday we brought back out beans that we have been growing
since the Easter Holidays. Violet brought in a tadpole, which
we are looking after, they were frog spawn and they will grown
into big mummy and daddy frogs. We have been counting
backward from 30. We made paper aeroplanes and threw them
to see how far they went, we measured the distance.

This week in Y6 all our writing in English has been based on the
book Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, by JK Rowling.
We have been writing character descriptions, newspaper
articles, and making changes to the story. We are very busy
as we have SATs in 3 weeks time. In Maths we have been
learning ration and proportion and how it could help us in our
SATs. Ration and proportion sounds hard but it is actually
quite easy.

Stars of the Week
We would like to celebrate those children who are demonstrating the values that we have covered so far this year, at home. The values are:
THANKFULNESS
TRUST
PERSEVERANCE
JUSTICE
SERVICE.
If your child has demonstrated any
of these values, please write their
teacher a short note about how/when
they demonstrated this value. They
will then be awarded the appropriate
values badge
