focuses on:
An incredibly exciting week with Year 6 pitting their knowledge and skills against the ever changing end of Primary School SATS tests. We are all so proud of them, their perseverance and determination to the end was fantastic and a great role model to everyone. Now to enjoy school in a different way – building go-karts and racing them! Within an afternoon the kits had been unboxed and major parts assembled – electrical circuits next! Hopefully you will see them roaring around the playground towards the end of next week. Their first race meeting is Saturday week at Renishaw.
Added to the excitement was the BBC visiting yesterday to talk to the FGR fans looking forward to Sunday’s big match at Wembley. Please see picture over the page. The children enjoyed a kick about and then a whole heap of them stepped forward to be interviewed! The piece goes out on BBC Points West at 6.30pm tonight. We are trying to get a recording to share with the children on Monday if they miss it. For all of you venturing down to Wembley on Sunday – good luck and give FGR a huge cheer from the school.
Staying with sport, we have just taken delivery of a brand new Archery Set! Mr Davis will be holding team selection/practice at lunchtime next Wednesday for Year 3&4 and lunchtime Thursday for Year 5&6. So come along if you would like to have a go and want a chance to be selected for the school team.
We are pleased to share our plans for a right royal knees-up at school where we will have a Queen’s Birthday Celebration Assembly and Street Party, in partnership with St George’s Church, on the 10th June to commemorate her 90th Birthday. The afternoon begins at 2.00 pm with a Celebration Assembly for the whole school, where the Reverend Mike Smith, Vicar of Nailsworth will lead children in collective worship.
This will be followed by a festive Street Party where members of the local community are invited to join the celebration and enjoy afternoon tea, served in the playground, surrounded by hundreds of colourful flags designed by the children. No birthday party would be complete without some delicious cake, and for this one cakes for the school will be baked by the pupils under the guidance of our school chefs, while adults will be treated to home-made cakes by St George’s Church. Party-goers will be entertained with live music from the School Choir, Drama Club and individual performers (you may be one yourself) while tea is served. In addition, everyone attending is asked to don a special hat for the occasion, to add to the party atmosphere! Following tea, a family rounders matches will take place on the playing field at 3.15 pm with festivities due to conclude at 4.15 pm. Please put it in the diary, it should be a fun event!
Finally, thank you for all the messages from home saying how great your children are. It’s such fun hearing how they have helped at home. This weekend’s challenge is for the children to do as many spontaneous acts of kindness without being asked! I really look forward to hearing how they do. Please could you help your child to sew on their cloth badges to their jumper. Finally, finally! There is a growing heap of lost property in the boys changing rooms – coats, jumpers and a mound of other stuff. Please come and have a look. Enjoy your weekend… We are FGR!

CLASS NEWS

In Reception this week we have been learning about
trains. How they work and that some trains are
underground, some are steam trains and some are normal
trains. In Maths we have been learning to subtract,
halve and share things so it’s the same. We have liked
being good role models and have been very quiet during
SATs week. It has been a bit of a challenge though!
