This is a new Sakai attraction where you can learn about Sen no Rikyu and Yosano Akiko through exhibits and video. Sakai tourist information is also available here.
Rikyu, who was born in Sakai in the Muromachi period (1336-1573), studied chanoyu tea ceremony and went on to perfect the wabi-cha style.
Yosano lived in Sakai until the age of 22. Known for Midaregami (tangled hair), a collection of poems, she was active during the Meiji and Showa periods (1878-1942).

Sakai has many famous places related to Sen no Rikyu, grand tea master and founder of the Senke family of tea ceremony schools.

Yosano Akiko was a poet born in Sakai
It is said that Sen no Rikyu trained at this temple and later infused tea ceremony with the spirit of Zen he learned there. Jisso-an, a tea house that Rikyu favored, can also be found within the grounds.

故居院内至今仍留有利休的山茶花井。
博物馆可让您了解利休在堺的岁月。
茶室里可亲手体验茶道。
千利休曾在该寺院修行，据传其在此领悟禅心，
并融于茶道。这里有利休偏爱的茶室“实相庵”。
晶子在 22 岁前一直在堺生活，因短歌集《乱发》一举成名，从明治时代起直至昭和时代，一直活跃于文坛 (1878-1942)。

The burial mound of the ancient Emperor Nintoku is said to be one of the world's three largest tombs, along with the Great Pyramid of Giza and China's Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor. Its total length is 486 meters. It is on UNESCO's World Heritage Site tentative list.
