CHOICE FM• TARGET AUDIENCE - 15 to 24

The radio station aims to reach out to the nations urban youth, just like our radio station FERM FM

• In order to connect to the youths, they have conducted many projects and events in order to tackle issues such as knife and gun crime which has risen dramatically in Britain.

• The presented and the website has been formalised in a way to appeal to the younger generation. The language spoken is also very modern and simplistic making it easier for kids of this age to remain in tune with out feeling bored because they do not understand.

OUR RADIO STATION • Having done research on Choice FM it is evident that

this is very popular choice for our target audience, thus we have decided to use their conventions and apply it to our radio newscast

• From this we want to have an appealing , urban jingle that instantly engages our listeners

• Current affairs about issues that effects them individually as well as around them in their community.

• And finally Celebrity gossip that is at the end of our radio newscast.

Age Groups

It was evident from this survey that evening is the most popular time when our target audience tune into a radio station. This could be , because they have school or college in the morning and afternoon thus making them not able to stay in tune with any radio station

From this survey, it is apparent that the most popular age group was between the ages of 16-20. This is perfect as our radio newscast aims to target these group of individuals.

RESULTS CONTINUED .....

Due to technological convergence people are now able to listen to any radio station whilst doing their homework on a Microsoft app. This is evidently a popular choice, especially for our target audience.

Young individuals evidently have no interest in politics and health as they find it boring and feel that the can nit relate to it as appose to entertainment which covers celebrity gossip music etc.

MUSIC• From a survey we had conducted, we had noticed that

music is very popular and appeal to our target audience ( youths). It was also evident that the music stations they enjoyed the most was kiss and choice FM, thus we had to do research about these radio stations and see what kind of music they play.

• This helped us in terms of choosing our coherent jingle which will be played throughout our radio station, which will help individuals recognize our radio station. We ensured that our jingle is urban and modern, yet sophisticated and catchy at the same time. This will appeal to our target audience making them want to stay in tune with our radio station.

STORIES CARRIED OUT

• HAPPINESS DAY

• ASPIRING YOUTHS

• 2012 OLYMIPCS

• STRATFORD WESTFEILD

Happiness day, a festival held annually at central foundation girls school aims to bridge the gap between the community and schools. It allows our target audiences (youths) to contribute back to their community , as well as get to know those around them.

Aspiring Youths illustrates the issue young talented teenagers are facing daily. The media have created an illusion that the music industry in open to anyone , yet have not specified the tight competition individuals will be facing.

The 2012 Olympics that is being held in London have created great job opportunities for our target audience. Our radio station checks whether this statement is actually true by asking many individuals living in East London.

The new Stratford Westfield have allowed young kids to shop, spend and socialize without travelling far from their area. This has also created many job opportunities for young youths who are now able to now balance work with school life as times have been made flexible.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGY FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?

Page 23: My seven questions

TECHNOLOGY

Digital AnalogueMany Digital radio systems for example DAB which stand for (digital Audio Broadcast ) aims to o transmit digital waves form the carrier to the receiver. It is then when these waves are then converted and transmitted as a binary format where there digital words are carried to the amplitude. These waveforms are then transmitted as an binary format . D.R.B ( digital radio broadcasting ) has also got the ability to provide satellite radio services. In modern society now , they have been specifically designed for mobile devices a means which the majority of people have , for example mobile-TV systems where people are able to watch and listen to when they like on there demand.

Unlike the new digital radio system , Analogue radio only has the ability to transmit the actual audio signal onto a RF carrier.

Likewise, Analogue signal can take on any figures within the limits set by the transmitter. However, the problem with using transmitting analogue audio signals is due to any noise or interference added to the signal at any point then this cannot be removed from the audio signal and degrades the audio quality of the signal.

Over the past years technology has become more advanced changing from Analogue to digital (DAB).

SOFTWARE USED

• Garage Band: This software allows us to create instruments, which will be useful for our radio station. This coherent tune will allow individuals to identify FERM FM, conforming to the conventions of a radio show.

• Audacity: Editing were usually seen as a job only for expertise which have the skills and knowledge for editing audios, likewise it can now be done in the comfort of your own home . This software allows us as media students to edit interviews and box plots we me have conducted for our radio station.

• Sound Cloud: Similarly sound cloud allows individuals to be able to upload audios where ever they wish, for example on blogger, twitter or face book. This advanced software portrays the moving technology as one no longer requires to transfer audios on to CDs.

Page 25: My seven questions

PORTABILITY The beauty about moving technology is that

microphones have now become portable, thus allowing individuals to recorded anything wherever they are on their demand.

This new technology also allows you to remove certain background noise, given you a clear, quality voice that doesn’t face any interference.

Mp3 recorders now have a built in USB , hence allowing a quick transfer to another computer. This prevents the hassle of having to connect several leads to the recorder, making it quicker to transfer items on demand.

Page 26: My seven questions

HOW I USED THIS FOR MY NEWS

• In order to find out what people thought about happiness day, I decided to conduct an interview with individuals that physically took part in the event.

• What this allows me to do is include varies opinions in my news making sure that I am not bias and provide a range of views. This also allows people that weren't at the event to see what they missed out on.

Page 27: My seven questions

MICROPHONES

A microphone that has shock mount is designed to isolate vibrations and background noises that may interfere in between voices . This will be an appropriate medium to use when recording our news.

This microphone also known as a ‘dead cat’ is a useful tool when recording outside or in a loud area. This is mostly used in studios as it captures the voice rather then unnecessary inference from the back making viewers have an enjoyable viewing.

Page 28: My seven questions

CONVERGENCES

• This is where two or more technologies merge into one. This has become a dominant aspect over the past years especially the latest

• I phones- which now have the useful software's such as sound cloud, meaning an easy, fast transition of your audio to the site or computer you wish to transfer it to.

• Samsung Galaxy- Now individuals are able to listen to the radio simply on their demand. It is also now of a better quality were there is less interference and having to stand at a certain area to find a good signal.

• Portable mp3 players – You are now able to store photos , listen to all your favorite music, as well as listen to the radio simply by placing your headphones in and put it in your pocket

Page 29: My seven questions

PROS & CONS• It is portable, therefore easy to carry . You can also record on you demand without the hassle of wires and stands.

• Audio clips - It is easy to transfer to your computer via USB again with out the hassle of complicated wires. Also you are now able to upload your audio clip anywhere as simple as a click of a button, therefore allowing individuals to view your work instantly for example * YouTube

• *face book etc

•Software's such as audacity and garage band allow you to edit audio clips within the comfort of your own home. It does not require any skills and knowledge, but rather focus and patience. These methods also allow you to pick out elements you want and remove others. Garage band also allows you to create instruments which will be useful.

• Software's such as Garage band only range with a limited instruments, making it very difficult if you are creating it for a certain genre.

•Portable Mps require battery, thus there will be rare circumstances where someone may have not noticed the battery has ran out , hence won’t be able to conduct their recording.

•In order to get the best sound from your clip, it will require a lot of money due to some Mps being better then others.

WHAT HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSING OF THE PRELIMINARY TASK TO THE MAIN TASK?

Page 31: My seven questions

THE PRELIMINARY TASK • This allows us to practice using a variety

of software meaning we are able to be confident and have the necessary skills and knowledge before our real thing.

This also allows us to choose appropriate equipment that may come in handy for our radio station for instance certain microphones etc.

Here me and my team mate Najah have played around with the editing as recording on audacity in order to build our skills and knowledge required when creating our newscast.

Page 32: My seven questions

EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE

In order to conduct my interviews for our radio station, I used a usb mp3 player.

We used sound cloud in order to place our audio clips on our blogs.

We also used a microphone that has shock mount in order towashout any interference and only get the voice.

To record our meetings, we used an I phone 4 to make the transition from the phone to the computer more easier.
