After launch from the ArleighBurke-class guided missile destroyer Decatur(DDG 73), the missile flew towards two targets,the navy's Mobile Sea Target and anothertarget ship, the MK-35 SEPTAR. The trial wasintended to demonstrate the missile's ability toselect the proper target when used inopen-ocean conditions. Harpoon II tracked andacquired the target exactly as planned, saysBoeing.
