It is possible to drop the third science subject before June, however many South African Universities require all three science subjects.

Doctors certificate to be handed in within 5 days after missed tests. Otherwise 0 % in that test.

Grade 11 and 12 are called “Qualifikationsphase”, each mark counts for the Abitur report.

Students should have learned to work, learn and actindependently

Quality of tests converges to the „Abitur“ tests

How to choose the examination subjects

Tests in March are written under „Abitur“ test conditions. Students get a hint as to which subjects they should choose, both oral and written.

Choose as a third written examination subject a subject where you have many points and where your written marks are good

Not possible as an examination subject: Sports, Music, Arts, LO

but French, History, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology can be chosen

History is obligatory as an examination subject; the student has to choose between an oral or a written examination.

How to choose theexamination subjects

Examination subjects: choose one subject from each of the four sectors:

German

Maths/Biology/Chemistry/Physics

Language (English (obligatory), French, Afrikaans)

History

Choose as a fifth examination subject any subject from the four sectors.

Students who have chosen French in grade 11+12 can choose French as an oral or written examination subject or can leave out French.

Students who have chosen Afrikaans in grade 11+12 and who have not chosen Afrikaans as the third written examination subject have to write an Afrikaans examination for the NSC, additional to his three written examination tests. Thus he has four written tests.

Students who have chosen Afrikaans as the third written examination subject have only three examination tests.

Choosing Afrikaans oral as a 4. or 5. examination subject is not possible.
