REWITEC®, founded in 2003 develops, produces and globally markets an innovative nano-coating based on several different synthetic and mineral silicate compounds. This is used in tribological systems- gears, bearings, internal combustion engines and similar. Even under the most extreme conditions metal surfaces are enhanced through insertion into the microscopic metal mesh structure of extremely fine silicates with a special formula. Even worn surfaces are able to be partially restored.

As proven by scientific tests (run in summer 2012 at Mannheim University), this achieves up to 33% less friction, 20% less increase in temperature and 50% less roughness. The metal silicate surface generated in this way smoothes the part it rubs against, optimises the tribological properties and thus increases energy efficiency. Assemblies thus consume less energy and engines less fuel, which means a reduction in power consumption and in emissions of CO2 and other harmful substances.

Whether in engines, gearboxes or bearings - friction and the associated wear is unavoidable in all moving parts. But this wear can be prevented by the selective use of REWITEC® products. The nano- and micro-particle-based lubricant additives of REWITEC® products have proven themselves by scientific reports and years of use, and constitute a high-tech product. They consist of the smallest silicates and can build a layer on the surfaces under the pressure and the heat in the systems. This processing removes the faults on the metal surfaces and protects the tribological systems in a sustainable way.

The application of REWITEC® lubricant additives includes many advantages and protects your investment over the long term. Increasing the service life of bearings, gearboxes or similar units and reducing downtime and breakdowns enhances the products from a commercial point of view. By reducing the life cycle costs of a machine, the cost of spare parts and servicing can be significantly reduced.

Surfaces are treated during ongoing operations without any expensive downtime or costs, with the active substance simply getting added to the lubricant, but not altering the latter’s properties. Instead it reacts on the material’s surface – we are therefore talking here not of a classic oil additive, but rather about a metal refinement process. REWITEC® is compatible with practically all standard mineral and synthetic oils on the market and can also be applied in grease or glide coatings.

Increase the life span of machine components through the addition of REWITEC® Duragear. The front axle assembly of UT001 and the rear axle assembly of UL001 were treated with Duragear. Duragear is added with oil to the component, using the oil as a carrier to move it to the mixed friction zones. It remains in the component for a minimum of 100 hours and then an oil change is performed. During the treatment period, the Duragear coating particles ceramize on the metal surfaces on the friction zones. The new metal-ceramic surface improves friction, temperature and wear on the component significantly.

Before the Duragear was added to the front axle of UT001, the differential centre had been producing X samples (X= extreme wear or critical oil degradation has occurred, immediate corrective action is required) which showed very high amounts of visible ferrous metal particles present for the previous six months. In any component, this would signify imminent failure, however after adding the Duragear there was a noticeable improvement. Results reflected a consistent C sample, followed by a B result. The UT001 wheel ends that had previously had a questionable history steadied and produced C samples, with the last test producing a B result. When Duragear was added, the components achieved another 3,141 hours, which exceeded their scheduled change out life.For the rear axle assembly on UL001, the wheel ends were at approximately 70% life and the differential centre was at approximately 30% life with the components showing steady B samples with some fine ferrous metal particles present. Once Duragear was added, the samples have improved and all but one are now an A sample.

The Transfer case has some microscopic surface damage, pitting and micro-pitting. The addition of REWITEC® DuraGear®100 should improve the effectiveness of the coating in the gear boxes. The analysis will be done by using the REWITEC® Replica Set (surface imprints) before and after < 100 hours after the treatment on the tooth flank.

For appraisal of the current condition one of the tooth flanks was selected. This was cleaned and marked using an oil-resistant dye so that it could be found again on the second inspection.

r e s u lt s :Based on the analyses of the surface imprints from the 02.04.2014 before the REWITEC® treatment, and the surface imprints after the treatment period of 8 weeks (28.05.2014) it can be established that the condition of the gear surfaces has changed considerably. In addition, electrical resistance increased from 20 ohms to 170 ohms on the run-out gear, which is a direct result of the silicon build up on the surface.
