Mr. ZHAO John (Zhigang) Legal Director (China Division), Yum! Brands Inc.

John graduated from the University of

Newcastle with a MBA and is the current

Legal Director of Yum! Brands Inc. (China

Division). He has 16 year’s experience as a

leading lawyer, providing legal guidance and management for a number of large companies.

He previously acted as Law Division Manager for Blue Scope Steel (Shanghai) and Senior

Legal Counsel of the Shangri La Hotel and Resort Group (China).

Currently at Yum! Brands, the world's largest fast food restaurant company in terms of

system units (nearly 38,000 restaurants around the world in more than 110 countries), John

is responsible for mergers and acquisitions, finance, franchises, supporting chain system

and information technology. He was involved in the acquisition of Little Sheep Group limited

(currently 300 chain restaurants in China (including Hong Kong and Macau), Taiwan, US,

Japan, South Korea and Canada and is now overseeing the integration of all its legal entities

in China.

Richard Mullane Senior Associate (Urban Design), HASSELL

Richard completed a Bachelor of Design

(Architecture) at the University of Newcastle,

going on to complete both his Bachelor of

Architecture (Hons) and Master of Urban

Development & Design at the University of

New South Wales. During his studies at UNSW he received the Commissioner Hoffman

Award in Urban Design and Planning. Today Richard is a Senior Associate of Urban Design

at HASSELL.

In 2007, he commenced work as an Urban Designer at HASSELL. In this role he has worked

on Government projects valued at AUD$12 Billion.

In 2009 he brought his talents to China and by 2012 he accepted the position as a Senior

Associate and leader of the Urban Design Team at HASSELL Shanghai. He has led his

team on many urban design projects including the Zhoushan Xiaogan Island Business

District Competition, Wuxi Tianyi Retail Centre & CBD and Tangshan New City Gateway

Parklands among others.

Richard has most recently led HASSELL’s Binhai High Speed Station Interchange Hub

design which has been shortlisted for the World Architecture Festival Award.

Ms. SUN Natellie (Yinyin)

Director (Finance), Michael Page International

Natellie graduated from the University of New

South Wales with a Bachelor of Arts (Japanese and

Human Resources Management) going on to

complete her Masters of Business Administration

with the University of Newcastle. She is now the

current Director (Finance) of Michael Page

International.

Natellie has previously worked with various companies such as INTERAC (Japan),

Rendezvous Hotel as an Assistant Office Manager and OMX Group as a HR Coordinator.

When she was 26, she moved back to China and joined Michael Page International

Focusing on Finance recruitment as a consultant. There she became the Top Biller for the

last quarter of 2008; and then became the ‘Top Biller’ in 2009 and 2010 for China. She also

doubled her team’s revenue and increased staff numbers by 60% in 2011.

She quickly progressed through the ranks in Michael Page International, becoming Senior

Consultant in 2009, Manager in 2010, and Senior Manager in 2011 and finally in 2012

promoted to the position of Director (Finance) becoming one of Michael Page’s faster

promotions by tenure.

As Director of the Finance recruitment division, she oversees a staff of 30 consultants plus

support staff. Under her leadership, her team has gained the number 1 market share in

Shanghai for specialist recruitment in Finance in 2012 – 3 times larger than the next

competitor. She also was key contributor in the set up of a new office in Suzhou and the

team appointed there.

Mr. JIN Terry Wei Partner and Production Director, The Oppland Corporation

Graduating from The University of Newcastle in

2006 with a Bachelor of Business majoring in

Management, Mr. Jin is currently a Partner for the

Oppland Corporation, a highly successful

conference business he founded in 2008, at 25

years of age.

After completing his studies in Australia, Mr. Jin returned to China in 2007 and secured a

position as the Producer for China Decision Makers Consultancy (CDMC), a large

conference business specializing in industry and retail. During his time he produced two

major conferences with a combined revenue of over RMB 4 million; The China Power &

Alternative Energy Summit (2008) involving over 200 delegates and 40 speakers and the

China Luxury Summit (2009) which involved over 250 delegates and 30 speakers.

In 2008, he founded The Oppland Corporation being currently one of its Partners and

Director Producer. He has focused it on delivering 5 star conference events to the aviation,

electricity and renewable, transportation, property and pharmaceuticals industries.

As of now, The Oppland Corporation has over 20 intellectual property owned conferences in

China which achieve annual revenue of RMB 8 million per annum some of which include; the

China Power & Alternative Energy Summit 2008; China Luxury Summit 2009; China Hi-End

Retail Summit 2009/2010; China Railway Innovation Summit 2009; China Commercial

Aircraft Summit 2010/2011/2012; and Renewable Energy & Grid Integration China

2011/2012 amongst others. Mr. Jin and his company is also involved in the ‘1kg Program’

which helps local children from mountain villages in Guangxi Province. Through his

Corporation, they annual donate funding, books and basketballs to the local elementary

schools.

Dr. LIU Yonghua Research Professor, Department of Polar Atmosphere and Space Physics, Polar Research Institute of China

Dr. Yonghua Liu is a senior scientist at the Center for Space

Physics at the Polar Research Institute of China and

graduated with a PhD from the University of Newcastle

where he completed a thesis entitled: ‘ULF waves in the

Earth’s magnetosphere’, Part I:Pc1-2 Waves, Part II: Pc3-5 Waves.

As a researcher, Dr. Liu has written over 20 scientific papers. He is an expert on Ultra Low

Frequency (ULF) waves and has published a number of papers investigating wave size,

sources, characteristics, phase structure and pulsations in the magnetosphere.

Dr. Liu has led many high level projects as the Chief Investigator (host) including a conjugate

study on Pc5 pulsation at high latitude, a 300,000 RMB project support by the Natural

Scientific Foundation of China and a collaborative research project on Space Plasma Waves

between China and Australia. He also played a key role in a 10,000,000RMB project

supported by the Natural Scientific Foundation of China on Geo-Space Storm courses at

multi-temporal and spatial scales.

In recognition of his research, Dr. Liu won the Excellent Paper Award on Polar Scientific

Research of China two years in a row (2009 and 2010). He has also won the 2nd Award of

Science and Technology Progress in Shanghai (2005) and was ranked 4th among a total of

13 group members and he won the 1st Award of the Oceanic Scientific Creation in State

Oceanic Administration of China (2001) and was ranked 6th out of 14 group members.

Dr. ZHANG Xiaofei Professor in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, National Center for Chronic and Noncommunicable Disease Prevention and Control (CDC)

Dr. Zhang is the current Professor in Epidemiology and Bio-

statistics at the National Center for Chronic and

Noncommunicable Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

He graduated with a PhD from the University of Newcastle

focusing on Community Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology.

He is a prolific researcher with over 25 publications in national and international journals and

books. He has investigated a wide range of topics including:

1) epidemic trends, risk factors and the prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in China,

2) work and disability related injuries, particularly in the USA,

3) risk factors for stroke,

4) factors influencing hypertension,

5) AIDS and much more.

In 2006, Professor Zhang was involved in a National Institute of Health project R01 for the

USA National Health Interview Study focusing on work related injuries among foreign and

US born employees. In 2008, Professor Zhang was offered a Senior Research Fellow in

Epidemiology at the University of Sydney, Australia. Here he worked on an initiative for

tobacco control in China and also salt modeling work for predicting Cardiovascular Disease

among Australians.

Dr. GAO Jinnan Director at Department of Breast Surgery, Shanxi Dayi Hospital

Dr. Gao is the founder and Director of the Breast

Surgery Department at one of China’s Largest hospitals,

Shanxi Dayi Hospital. He graduated from the University

of Newcastle with a PhD, where his research

investigated the association between mammographic

density and breast cancer.

Dr. Gao has since committed himself to the modernization and standardization of breast

cancer treatment and research in China. Under his leadership, Dr. Gao’s department

pioneered a number of areas in the treatment of breast cancer and also in research. These

include:

1) routine sentinel lymph node biopsy during surgical resection of breast cancer;

2) standard breast-conserving surgery for patients with early breast cancer;

3) psychological support service to patients and families; and

4) regular breast cancer Multidisciplinary team meetings.

Dr. Gao has established the first ever breast cancer database in Shanxi Province, which has

started to provide clinicians and researchers with invaluable clinical, pathological, and

genetic information about breast cancer patients. Along with this, Dr. Gao and his colleagues

have established the first comprehensive breast cancer registry network in the province.

He has published regularly in highly ranked journals on the topic of breast cancer and has

also presented his work in a large number of major international breast cancer conferences.

He has also been frequently invited to present lectures by a large number of hospitals and

medical universities in China. He has been recognized as one of the most renowned medical

specialists in Shanxi province.

 

2012 FINALIST FOR THE AUSTRALIA CHINA CONNECTIONS MAGAZINE AUSTRALIA CHINA ALUMNI AWARD FOR ICT AND NEW MEDIA

Mr. TANG Laing (Leo) Managing Director, Eventown Group ; President and Chief Operating Officer, Qyun Game

Mr. Leo Tang graduated from the University of Newcastle

with a Master of Marketing, where upon he has since gone

on to become the Founder and Managing Director of The

Eventown Group. This has included overseeing the

company’s four main subsidiaries including

eventown.com.cn, HBC, ETA and the Qyun Game of which

he is the President and COO.

Eventown has rapidly grown to have nearly 3000 clients which include high level companies

such as Cheung Kong, Swiss RE and PG etc. One of their most recent event was organizing

the BCG WWOM meeting held in Beijing in May 2012, a US$ 300 million event that

showcased Chinese culture to the world. This event involved organizing logistics for 6200

people, tours for 1600 people and 36 business visits from around the world among other.

Prior to establishing the Eventown Group, Leo was the Chief Press and Public Relations

Officer of SOHU Changyou (Nasdaq: CYOU). He was the corporate spokesperson for the

company, managing the media, investors and the Chinese government. Whilst there Leo

was also credited with founding the Brandcom Department for innovative integrated

marketing communications.

Leo has also recently been noticed as one of "China's Top Leading Talents", a title handed

down by the Chinese government, and will receive RMB1 million in funding for Eventown's

new subsidiary Qyun Game.

 

2011 RECIPIENT OF THE AUSAID SCHOLARSHIPS AUSTRALIA CHINA ALUMNI AWARD

Assoc. Prof. Zhou Yun Director, International Cooperation, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Science (CRAES)

Zhou Yun has been working with the Chinese Research

Academy of Environmental Science (CRAES) since 1990. She

is now the Director of International Cooperation at CRAES.

She has been involved in a number of projects funded by World Bank, ADB and AusAID, the

Canadian International Development Agency, and the Swedish International Development

Agency as project director/coordinator. Her interests are climate change and energy,

environmental impact assessment, and public participation in environmental protection.

Prof. Zhou received an AusAID scholarship in 2002 to study a Masters degree in

Environmental Studies at the University of Newcastle in Australia. She has been very active

in Sino-Australian environmental cooperation, especially in contributing to the Australia-

China Environment Development Program.

Most recently Prof. Zhou has been working on an EU funded project to map out China’s

areas of Environmental Research Excellence and major Infrastructure. She is currently

researching the economic and health impact of contaminated water resources in China, and

the impact of climate change on water shortages. She is also working on the AusAID

sponsored project – Transjurisdictional Water Pollution Management in China.

Prof. Zhou has also played a key role in a Canadian funded “Trees for Life” project that has

involved 200,000 Chinese children in an educational project growing trees from seeds since

1994.

Prof. Zhou is based in Beijing and is presently also a doctoral candidate at the Beijing

Normal University. She was shortlisted as a finalist in the University of Newcastle’s Alumni

Awards in 2010 in the International leadership category.

 

2011 RECIPIENT OF THE BUSINESS EVENTS SYDNEY AUSTRALIA CHINA ALUMNI AWARD FOR RESEARCH AND INNOVATION

Dr. Wang Shuguang Associate Professor, Director (Research), Institute of Sociology, Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences; A/Professor, School of Psychology, The University of Newcastle, Australia; UNICEF HIV Consultant, China

Dr. Wang Shuguang is a leading sociologist, psycho-

cultural researcher, and nationally recognized

international advisor on HIV/AIDS in China. Since

completing his PhD at the University of Newcastle (1998) and NH&MRC funded post-

doctoral research and training at the National Centre in HIV Social Research (NCHSR), at

the University of NSW (2004), Dr Shuguang Wang has worked as an Associate Professor at

the Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences.

He spends 80% of his time living and working in the field in China, but also finds time to

maintain strong academic and research ties with Australia as an Associate Professor in the

School of Psychology at the University of Newcastle.

Dr Wang has successfully undertaken over 30 bilateral/multilateral international collaborative

HIV/AIDS programs in HIV/AIDS prevention. e.g. Australia NHMRC (2001); Australia AFAO

HIV Project (2005); AusAID and ARC Tibet HIV program (2007); UNICEF China HIV project

(2007-present); and Keats Research Projects (Newcastle University 2001-2010 ongoing

academic China studies) covering various vulnerable populations to support strategic

development for integrated and innovative responses to epidemics and disaster in diverse

challenged settings across China.

Dr Wang has published four academic books, numerous book chapters and more than

ninety papers to significantly contribute to the academic literature on China’s sociology and

psycho-cultural studies of HIV and health both nationally and raising its international profile.

Dr Wang's latest achievement and ongoing project for the wellbeing of the Chinese people,

has been to coordinate the research on psycho-cultural rehabilitation for ethnic Qiang

 

children affected by the massive Sichuan earthquake (May 2008). Dr. Wang was

awarded the Newcastle University Alumni Award for International Leadership in

2010.

 

2011 RECIPENT OF THE TELSTRA SENSIS AUSTRALIA CHINA ALUMNI AWARD FOR ICT AND NEW MEDIA

Mr. George Tuan CEO and Chairman, Adsit Media Technology Co. China

Mr. Tuan is the Chairman and CEO of Adsit

Advertising Co Ltd, the largest web intelligent ad

communication service provider in China. Through

establishing strategic partnerships with China’s

leading Internet media (including Baidu TV, Sina,

Tencent, Renren, etc.) and world-class advertising

agencies (WPP, OMG, Aegis, and Publicis, etc.), Adsit provide online targeting advertising

services for 430 leading brands in China including Coca Cola, Adidas, China Mobile, BMW,

Mercedes Benz and Pizza Hut.

Through the creative use of ICT and new media technologies, Adsit is taking the lead in the

intelligent advertising industry in China, providing the highest ROI and measurable analysis

of communication effects transforming Digital Marketing from the traditional extensive

management to targeted, intelligent and refined management.

Adsit has received widespread praise and recognition including being named in China’s top

50 High Technology and Fastest Growing Enterprises by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in 2010

and awarded Video Marketing Outstanding Contribution Award at a Marketing Internet

Conference, China 2010. Looking forward, Mr Tuan is planning to make Adsit a public

company in the next 12 months and establish its position in the online marketing technology

platform.

Prior to founding the company, Mr. Tuan worked as senior executive in the International

Internet, IT, and telecom companies including Yahoo (Special Assistant to the CEO and

President – Taiwan), Sysware Group (TW:6214), Vice President of Artel Group (0931.HK),

and Chief Operating Officer of CITIC Group (one of the largest Chinese state-owned

conglomerates), and in the fields of sales and marketing as well as operation management

for over 18 years.

 

Mr. Tuan graduated from the University of Newcastle Australia with a Master of

Business Administration in 1998.

 

2011 RECIPIENT OF THE IELTS AUSTRALIA CHINA ALUMNI AWARD FOR WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP

Mrs Ong-Koh Wee Nah General Manager, Frasers Centrepoint

Mrs Ong-Koh Wee Nah graduated from the University of

Newcastle Australia with a Bachelor of Architecture

(honours) in 1979, and was a Colombo Plan Scholar.

Mrs Ong-Koh has built a highly successful international

career in Architecture, particularly in complex commercial

developments. Her success has been built on performance excellence and reveals a true

spirit of learning and development, strong leadership, initiative, innovation and dedication to

the progress of infrastructure and development in a number of countries. She has brought to

China a wealth of experience, having worked across the globe on major architecture projects

in Singapore, India, Pakistan, Cambodia, Taiwan, Vietnam and Dubai.

In 2006, Mrs Ong-Koh was appointed the General Manager and Project Director for Frasers

Property China. Frasers Property is a leading provider of business and living space solutions

and reliable property management services in Greater China. In only five years in China she

has overseen significant work including two major projects from conception to operation.

The first project was a 32,000 square metre multiple level retail/office mall in Beijing which

was completed and in operation within the exceptional timeframe of 18 months, just before

the Beijing Olympics. The second major project, completed in November 2010, saw her lead

the development of the largest logistic centre in Western China with a floor area of 193,996

square metres. This project was again completed on schedule and budget. The office space

was sold out only six months after the launch which is an excellent commercial and

corporate outcome. Due to her great success, dedication to excellence, proven application to

steep learning curves and leadership, Mrs Ong-Koh has now been given the role of leading

phase 2 developments of this major project.

 

2011 FINALIST FOR THE AUSTRALIAN EDUCATION INTERNATIONAL YOUNG AUSTRALIA CHINA ALUMNI OF THE YEAR AWARD

Mr. Peng (Ralph) Chen Director of Brand Management Department, Geely International Corporation

Mr. Ralph Chen graduated from The University of Newcastle

Australia with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2004.

Upon graduation, Mr. Chen returned to China to commence a highly

successful six year career in the automotive communications

industry. In 2005, Mr. Chen worked in the world’s largest advertising agency, Dentsu as an

Account Manager for Lexus. Using his skills acquired from his degree, Mr. Chen was

responsible for launching and promoting the Lexus Brand, surpassing all his targets.

In 2006, Mr. Chen was offered by Nissan (China) Investment the position of Deputy Manager

for the Marketing Department. His innovative leadership and hard work paid off with Nissan

Headquarters awarding him and his team a silver prize for global brand event organiser of

the year.

Mr. Chen, at such a young age was starting to receive high praise and a reputation in the

luxury car industry and in 2008 was appointed the Director of the Marketing Department for

the Mercedes-Benz Centre (Beijing). Formulating a new marketing plan and devising new

strategies and targets provided Mr. Chen an opportunity to establish himself as a dynamic

business leader.

Today, Mr. Chen holds the position of Director, Brand Management Department, for Geely

International Corporation, one of China’s top 10 auto manufacturers. In this current role, Mr.

Chen has produced a new global brand strategy which has recently been approved by

Senior Management and will be rolled out later this year. Mr. Chen reports directly to the

General Manager of Geely International Co. and to the Vice President of the Geely Group.

Mr. Chen has also found time for community service, volunteering his time in 2008 to teach

English to locals leading up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Dr. David Zhidong Li President, Heter Electronics Group

In 2005, Dr. Zhidong Li was the first person to be awarded a

Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) from the University

of Newcastle Australia. He has published a range of well

received publications, such as books, journal articles and

conference papers, related to finance, banking, leadership and business management. He

was appointed by the University of Newcastle to supervise a number of DBA candidates.

Some of candidates have successfully been awarded doctor degrees from the University of

Newcastle.

Dr. Li has had a 16-years distinguished career to date, developing and implementing ground

breaking business strategies which have had significant corporate development and financial

outcomes in various business sectors, such as financial services, new energy and urban

development industries.

As the President of The Heter Electronics Group, one of the leading lithium iron phosphate

green battery manufacturers in China, Dr. Li and his team established an environmental

education program by working with the China National Committee for the Wellbeing of the

Youth. The program provides on-site education to local students to learn about various new

energy solutions.

In January 2011, as the Chairman of Corun Group Investment and Risk Management

Committee, a new energy group in China, Dr. Li led his team acquired a nickel-hydride

battery plant in Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo, from Panasonic Corp, which produces

electric vehicle batteries for Toyota, Nissan and Honda . This acquisition will push Corun to

realize its development strategy and help it rapidly tap into the international market.

From 2008 to 2010, Dr. Li was the Vice President of Pilot Investment Holdings, a state-

owned urban developer with over RMB 30 billion assets. With a commitment to sustainable

design principles and the best practices of urban planning, his team and partners have

 

realized their vision and invested over RMB 20 billion RMB for a new

environmental friendly city.

In 2007, Dr. Li was appointed as the CEO of China Organic Agriculture. To produce high

quality organic rice, his team invested significantly in educating local farmers to preserve

land from pollution. With his leadership, the company performance improved significantly,

the share price increased from $0.35 to above $4.00.

Dr. Li also served for China Marxism Research Foundation at China Central School of the

Central Committee of C.P.C. China Marxism Research Foundation is a non-profit

organisation, and managing and financing a number of influential research projects on

economics and politics issues in China.

 

2011 FINALIST FOR THE MALLESONS STEPHEN JAQUES AUSTRALIA CHINA ALUMNI AWARD FOR CORPORATE ACHIEVEMENT

Mr. Shuangwu Chen General Manager, Skaugen Marine Construction Co. Ltd.

Mr. Chen worked for 10 years (1993 – 2005) in global

shipping organisations in senior management positions. He

achieved significant corporate outcomes in that sector before

moving to senior management positions with Dell, Sony and

Intralox L.L.C. In January 2009, he returned to his primary area of interest in the shipping

industry, as Deputy General Manager and Chief Financial Officer with the global leader,

Skaugen Marine Construction Co (SMC) and in 2010 was offered the position of General

Manager.

SMC is committed to building capacity in China and is engaged in chemical & gas

transportation, ship & fleet management and ship building businesses. SMC was established

to manage the new building programs for I.M.Skaugen in China. In his role as General

Manager, Mr. Chen is responsible for the overall chemical shipbuilding in China including

Manufacturing, Engineering and Procurement, Logistics, R&D and strategic development,

and achieved USD 11 million cost-savings with the successful delivery of 9 most complex

LNG/LPG/Chemical vessels as total value of USD 379million. He values his role and the part

that his company plays in contributing to China’s shipping transport and logistics

infrastructure.

In his senior managerial roles he has developed internal HR training schemes and

leadership enhancement guidelines to improve production and reduce staff turnover,

fostering a culture of best practice. As a Senior Manager at Sony he established a

leadership training scheme and was a senior mentor for future managers. Mr. Chen

introduced procedures to streamline management strategy which succeeded in clarifying

each division's scope and targets leading to a 75% increase in customer satisfaction at

Sony, China (Dalian branch).

 

Mr. Chen has a sense of corporate social responsibility, and has initiated

fundraising activities within his workplaces, promoting greater awareness of rural

children's education and raising funds for the devastating 2008 earthquake in the

Sichuan province.

Dr Beibei Zhang Assistant General Manager, China Merchants Property Development

Ms. Beibei Zhang obtained her doctorate at the

University of Newcastle in 2006. After graduation, she

worked in the field of assets valuation and mergers and

acquisitions as the Corporate Finance Executive at

Oriental Patron Financial Group (Hong Kong China). She

has also been a professional demand analyst dealing

with front office business development and back office project management with the China

Bohai Bank. Following this position she joined the China Merchants Property Development

Co. Ltd (CMPD) as Assistant General Manager in charge of the company’s research and

research management.

In the past two years, Dr Zhang was selected to do post-doctorate research in cooperation

with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the China Merchants Group on real

estate financing and financial innovation. During this period Dr Zhang wrote 11 working

papers and 7 specialized papers on her research topics; obtained special funding for her

research topic on China’s Real Estate Financial Innovation in Financial Crisis – REITs; and

led a major project for the Central State Organs Housing System Reform Office. Dr. Zhang

has also contributed to a book produced by the Central Government Liaison Office in Hong

Kong.

Dr. Zhang has been invited to take an Associate Professor position at Henan University of

Economics and Law, and is a consultant for two investment consulting companies.

Professor Fengming Zhang Professor, Department of Physics, Nanjing University; Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Tianwei New Energy Holdings Co Ltd

Fengming Zhang, was born in the city of Chengdu. He received

the B. S. degree in 1986 from Shandong University in Jinan,

China. Following a competitive examination process, he enrolled

in graduate studies at the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy

of Sciences in Beijing, China in 1986. With a M.S. won there in 1989, he became a lecturer

at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China.

In 2003, Fengming Zhang enrolled in the University of Newcastle in Australia with the

Overseas Postgraduate Research Scholarship (OPRS) and the University of Newcastle

Postgraduate Research Scholarship (UNRS) and got his Ph.D in Physics there in 1997.

From early 1996 to middle 2001, he worked at the University of New South Wales and

Pacific Solar Pty Ltd. in the field of solar cells as a research scientist.

In 2001, he joined Nanjing University in China as a professor. With active research activities

in the field of nano-magnetism and solar energy, he has supervised over 10 Ph.D. students

and has been responsible to quite a few key research projects from the Chinese

Government. In 2005, he was awarded "Talent Cultivation Plan of New Century" by the

Education Ministry of China. At the same time, as one of the key founders of China Sunergy

he has been as the Executive Board Director and Vice President for manufacturing from

August 2004 to April 2009. In 2008, he was awarded the prize of ‘Top-ten talents for

Achievement in Innovation and Enterprise Set-up’ by Nanjing Municipal Government. Since

joining Tianwei New Energy Holdings as a Vice General Manager and Chief Technology

Officer late 2009, he has improved the technology level of the company significantly.

 

2010 FINALIST AUSAID SCHOLARSHIPS ALUMNI AWARD

Associate Professor Zhou Yun Director of International Cooperation, Chinese Research Academy of Social Science

Zhou Yun has been working with the Chinese Research

Academy of Environmental Science (CRAES) since

1990. She is now the Director of International

Cooperation Centre at CRAES. She has been involved

in a number of projects funded by World Bank, ADB and AusAID, Canadian International

Development Agency, Swedish International Development Agency as project

director/coordinator. Her interests are climate change and energy, environmental impact

assessment, and public participation in environmental protection.

Yun received an AusAID scholarship in 2002 and with that, pursued a Master degree in

Environmental Studies at the University of Newcastle in Australia. She has been very active

in Sino-Australian environmental cooperation, especially in the Australia-China Environment

Development Programme.

Yun is based in Beijing and presently a doctoral candidate at the Beijing Normal University.

Dr Shuguang Wang

Director (Research), Institute of Sociology, Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences; Associate Professor, School of Psychology, University of Newcastle

A leading sociologist, psycho-cultural researcher, and

national recognized international advisor in HIV/AIDS of

China, since completing PhD of the University of

Newcastle (1998) and NHMRC post-doctoral at the

National Centre in HIV Social Research, UNSW,

Australia (2004), Dr Shuguang Wang as an A/Prof.

Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences and the University

of Newcastle, in cooptation with the China-Australia Centre at Sichuan University, China has

been significant in maintaining ongoing positive cooperation and innovation which has arisen

directly from his Ph. D. and post-doctoral based on research in the last 15 years.

While, Dr Wang as a key role of team leader, Australian international expert and consultant

and chief investigator has successfully undertaken over 30 bilateral/multilateral international

collaborative HIV/AIDS programs in HIV/AIDS prevention. i.g. Australia NHMRC (2001);

Australia AFAO HIV Project (2005); AusAID Tibet HIV program (THSSP,2007); Unicef

China HIV project (2007-present); and Keats Research Projects (Newcastle University 2001-

2010 gonging academic China studies) covering various vulnerable population to support

strategic development for integrated and innovated response to epidemics and disaster in

diverse challenged settings across China. Dr Wang published eight academic books and

more than ninety papers to significantly contribute academic literatures on China’s sociology

and psycho-cultural studies of HIV and health both national and international profiles.
