St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice in your local communities Morton News December 2015 Our recent Ladies Lunch at Hemswell Court saw over 80 ladies enjoy a fantastic shopping experience with our local gift and craft stalls, a delicious lunch and being entertained by the wonderful `Withern Singers’. The day was a great success raising over £1200 to support our local community Hospice services; our sincere thanks to

everyone who attended and supported the event in some way. A reminder that our annual `Light up a Life’ event in Gainsborough will this year take place on Tuesday 8th December, 7pm at the United Reformed Church. This celebration provides a special time for families and friends to join us in remembering the people we love who are no longer with us. Light up a Life is open to everyone not just those touched by Hospice Care and regardless of faith. If you would like to make a dedication in remembrance of a loved one please get in touch with me or go to www.stbarnabashospice.co.uk/Donate On Thursday 4th February 2016, 10am – 12noon our `Bring a Gift’ Coffee Morning will return to the, George Henderson Lodge, Morton. If you have any unwanted Christmas presents, this is a great opportunity to bring them along knowing they will be put to good use and that you will also be supporting your local Hospice. This year our `Bring A Gift ‘Coffee Morning was a great success and I was overwhelmed at the number of gifts that were so kindly donated. These have been used in raffles and tombola’s at events in the area and has helped raise monies to support our continuing delivery of patient care. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who has over the year supported St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice in some way, by promoting and attending our events, donating prizes, homemade produce and plants, baking cakes, making donations and giving their time and resources. Special thanks to `Eminox’ for choosing St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice as their charity of the year. This support has enabled the conversion of a room at the George Henderson Lodge into a new Physiotherapy room is of enormous help and benefit to our patients. And finally but by no means least my heartfelt thanks to all our volunteers who help in so many ways at the George Henderson Lodge and who have also helped me at events;

I really appreciate all that you do and it is an absolute pleasure to work with you. Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and my Best Wishes for 2016 With many thanks for your continuing support. Caroline Swindin Community Events Fundraiser, Mobile: 07435 970309 email: [email protected]

A Message for the distribution team from David Bew After almost three years in the role I am standing down but I am pleased to say that Penny Lightfoot will be taking over the role of Distribution Coordinator. Together with taking on the role I know that Penny will bring new ideas to the committee on how the magazine can be improved and distribution extended to ensure that everyone in Morton receives a copy. Her contact details are shown on the front page. In the meantime I would like to thank all of you who distribute the newsletter for your help and support during my time in office and for always being so cheery when I turn up on your doorstep. It has been a joy to get to know you all and I would like to wish you the very best for the future.

Together with the raffle this raised £320 for St. Paul’s. We thank all those who helped, sold tickets and gave prizes and to Sylvia Hughes who every year helps out by folding all the tickets. As we are a small elderly congregation these events are essential to keep the church maintained and open. Please support our other two events advertised.

Morton Cricket Club Are hosting a combined Christmas Bingo/Quiz night at Morton Village Hall on 12th December 2015 at 6.30pm. Tickets are priced at £3.00 which will in-clude a chip butty from local favourite chippy Johnsons. The event is open to all and you do not have to be a cricket club member to attend. There will be some fantastic prizes on offer and refreshments will be available from a fully licenced bar. If you would like to attend the event please call Katy Marshall on 07823 557532 or Claire Kelly on 07525100356 to reserve your ticket. ——————————————————————————

Morton Village Hall Quiz

Another good Quiz was held in the Village Hall on November 7th, thanks to the Quizmasters Christopher and Tony. There were 18 tables of people filling the hall to capacity, all hoping their brains were going to be fully functioning for the evening. It was good to see a lot of new faces and we hope they and the regulars enjoyed the evening and would like to come again. The meat pies and the lovely gravy were provided by Pam at The Ship Inn, and the chips were from the Fish Lodge. Thanks to all those who help to make the evening go smoothly, the people who help get the room ready in the afternoon, the washer-uppers, the people who supply raffle prizes and sell tickets, and it's great that everyone helps clear the room at the end of the evening. All done and dusted in 20 minutes, a real community effort!
