▪Consider both your communication and marketing goals▪Make sure they’re SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely)▪Create short and long-term goals▪Don’t forget to revisit them throughout the year!

2. Understand your audience
▪Who are you trying to reach?▪How do they prefer receiving news and information?▪Are you talking to an empty room? If so, why?

3. Determine what kind of information to share
▪Community events▪Highlight news stories featuring local businesses and individuals▪ Third party resources your community members might find useful▪Commentary and op/ed from staff▪ Tax, permit, and licensure information

4. Determine which social networks you should engage
▪ Is it appropriate for my staff, industry, and the type of services we provide?▪Will my audience be looking for information there? Will they truly engage?▪Will the return on our investment justify the cost (financial, energy, manpower, sanity, etc.)
