Collage of my Favourite Music MagazinesHere are representations of some of the music magazines I love, now I’m not the biggest reader so I have also done some research and found that my friends like to read the other magazines I have put in my selection for my mood board collage.

These are the favourite 5 magazine covers I have pulled from my collage, and I will be analysing them.

My friend said they chose this, because it’s good for R&B gossip, they like to read about what’s new and what’s happening with their favourite artists. As far as presentation goes it is a classic design using a medium close up picture to attract the reader, a second key feature to this magazine would be the fact that the artists in this edition have been made bolder, so when people look at this magazine and see someone they like, they immediately think “what’s happening with……”, making them want to buy the magazine. This magazine comes across serious and that can be a key selling point for the readers.

Kerrang I chose to put kerrang in my

presentation because, out of the few magazines I read or have heard of kerrang would probably be the number one most recognisable music magazine, immediately associated with music and an ideal representation of a good music magazine. The cover I have used has a very common style which they have created, you look at it and it seems jam packed with information, there is lots to talk about and the image used can be recognised by the types of readers it wishes to attract, targeting the rock and roll audience.

Q This is a very interesting

magazine, it seems to disobey all the rules, people think that just young people are into music, but Q targets the more mature, older generation, using high quality photography and printing to draw the target audience. Looking at this magazine cover I have chosen for just a second, almost instantly makes you want to turn back round to look at it. 3 things you see straight away; the photo, the name, the Q, and this is all that is on the cover. It works really well and using basic techniques separates itself into a different league.

Mojo After one of my friends

suggested Q to be one of their favourite magazines, I researched it to find that MOJO was a tangent of Q, and the same people publish them. Mojo identifies classic rock artists and I think tries to attract a more mature audience. The cover is colourful and I think that’s what attracts people and draws people to it, because the writing and pictures are hard to generalise from looking at the magazine from a distance.

NME Dating back around 50

years, NME is one of the most well known magazines stocked to this very day. Features include the new music, so it is up-to-date with trends in the now. I think it uses a very similar format to OK magazine it’s very bubbly / in your face and this is why I would class the target audience as younger rather than older.

Here are two examples to prove my point of why I think ok magazine and NME are very similar.

Notice how the picture is not blurred but it comes second after reading the main cover line, it’s over taken by the writing so you read it first, look at it

second. Even the mastheads are the same; same position, almost same font and even outlined the

same!
