Here are some examples of Kerrang magazine, they stood out to me because they show an entire band covering the front cover, the masthead has a shattered look, and it also has quite large other pictures on the front cover which stand out and it looks dynamic with only a few different colours used. I believe the target audience is predominantly males ages 15-35 however they describe their reader profile as anyone independent minded, musically experienced, defined by attitude and passion. According to ABC they sell 43,253 copies per issue on average.

Here are some examples of Rolling Stone magazine, this magazine has a simple style, with a blank background to it’s covers putting the focus on the artist on the front cover. The Mast head is often partially covered, but almost entirely covered in the centre issue, this is because it is such a famous brand name most people can recognise the title from very little. The text is simple fonts and black, white and one other colour (dependant on cover image to match) which is a simple and effective design. I particularly like the 60’s pop art style to the cover on the right, and the comical image of Snoop Dogg fort the Christmas issue. The magazine sells over 1.4 million copies of each issue being one of Americas biggest and most iconic Music magazines

Here are some NME examples and a copy of Mixmag, NME has a similar layout to Kerrang, being quite over crowded having very well known artists on the front, however they try to make the picture slightly more interesting than a straight mid shot. Mixmag on the other hand, has much smaller fonts so there is a lot of the front page but it doesn’t seem over crowded. The picture has a bit of a background unlike others although it isn’t an everyday scene, it tries to be far more dynamic than others as well having a very lively cover photo, also the Masthead doesn’t use capital letters, which could be a subtle reference to text grammar, to appeal to it’s younger target audience (predominantly males in their 20s) with a high disposable income. According to ABC Mixmag circulates 30,159 an issue with just under 7000 coming from outside the UK and RoI. NME circulates around 4,500,000 a month however that is several issues as it is a weekly magazine.
