Changing Times Need a Fresh ApproachThose were the days when life was simple, familieslarge, bum-chums nearby and domiciles almostpermanent. If one was worried about something therewas always help at hand if not in the form of parents, then friends and associates. But all this has been sweptaway with the sands of time.Migration to new cities is the norm, aspirations are skyhigh and competition grim. Real time companions-especially the old tried and tested ones-are fewer, andloneliness is the last straw that sometimes breaks thecamel’s back. While tensions have rocketed enormously, those who could assuage our perturbed minds are fewor far away. No wonder mental problems are gallopingall over. There is a greater need for support systemstoday than there ever was. Since traditional supportsystems have dwindled we should look for alternativesources of help which are available in the form ofpsychologists, counselors, psychiatrists and online help.We should seek help if we can identify some of thefollowing facts in our own lives:(i) Have you become quiet and asocial?(ii) Do you feel sad and disinterested most of the time?(iii) Do you neglect your daily routine?(iv) Do you find it difficult to take decisions?(v) Are even simple tasks too laborious for you?(vi) Do you have suicidal thoughts?(vii) Do you sleep too little or too much?(viii) Has your appetite changed?(ix) Do you have aches, pains or gastric problems?(x) Have you become angry and irritable? If any of these complaints have disrupted your life pleaseseek help. There can be no health without mental andemotional health. There is no stigma attached tosuffering from such problems. Early redressal is the bestoption.

an ardent Mohyal . Heplayed all his roles on thisearth with panache be it thatof a son, a friend or ateacher. He lived by hisconvictions and practicedwhat he preached. He freed himself from theearthly shackles at the ageof 87 years to merge withHim, a little after the dawnof the new year on 2nd

January 2020. Having livedthrough the trauma of post-part ition, his formative

years of childhood nevertheless remained an epitomeof an unyielding spirit which enabled him to sternly gazeon the vicissitudes of early life. He remained undauntedin the face of the challenges that life thrust upon himand emerged triumphant in the ordeal like the proverbialPhoenix which could rise from it’s own ashes. He hadthe satisfaction of seeing his children well settled, thejoy of living through his grandchildren and the ultimateecstasy of blissful interaction wi th his greatgrandchildren. What else is needed in the short sojournof life with all the concomitants of mortality, flux andchange and the final exit ? His life would always remainan inspiration and a model to emulate by all of us. Hispainless departure, a bliss available to only his chosenfew, would always remain an idea cherished by thegenerations. His spirit remained untamed and unbridledtill the end of his earthly drama. We will grieve not, ratherfind strength in his brooding presence and all that itstands for: courage never to submit or yield and to moveon and that death is not a plunge into darkness andextinguishing the light but only putting out the lampbecause dawn has come.
