there is the Mirza-Sahiban from the ancient folklore and then there are the lovers from the modern times. We see
Sahiban, teary eyed, yet breaking Mirza's arrows. In modern times, the lovers run away from Sahiban's home
on the night of her wedding to another boy. While the modern love story of Adil and Suchi is set in
Rajasthan, the epic love story is seen in Ladakh.
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's film Mirzya an intriguing plot of a triangle love story.
When the focus shifts from one era to another it reminds us that despite the passage of time, even today lovers do
give their lives away for their love.
The Punjabi folklore revolves around young lovers Mirza-Sahiban, who are separated by their parents when they
discover their love.
- Niharika bhasin khan the costume designer of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehera’s Mirzya
- Mirzya is the contemporized version of the tragic love story – Mirzya And Sahiba. Niharika says
“ in mirzya there are two parts. One contemporary version and
other folkloreAs folklore is an imaginary portion, I have designed for that sequence, it is timeless
and very different from that I have put my mind together to do
•The curly locks and light eyed debutante has been making many
appearances as she promotes her movie Mirzya and her style is rather
impressive.
•Another one of her looks that we got a sneak peek of, is this stunning red
lengha she is wearing for one of the scenes .
•Saiyami's look is styled by Leepakshi
Ellawadi who is the costume designer / stylist from Sultan and now also the
costume designer of Mirzya and tubelight.
•The actress is wearing a quintessential desi Red Rajasthani lengha with a koti, heavy Kundan necklace,
Nathni, and a borala.
•Leepakshi says, "Dressing Saiyami and Harshvardhan has been an absolute pleasure.
• Saiyami’s Wedding Costume: 14.5 kg lehenga and 1.5 crore worth jewellery
•Harshvardhan hails from a poor background. The actor will be seen as a stable boy, who takes care of the horses. Thus, his look is crafted keeping cow boys in mind. “I designed his look on the lines of James Dean (American actor).• His appearance is very grungy with all the bundies, denims, even denim bandies for that matter. •He is from the labour class and to suit that we even aged his clothes,” elaborates Lipakshi.11 pair of ‘laung’ for Harshvardhan
Hailing from a Rajput family, Harshvardhan will be seen sporting an accessory worn by the guys of Rajasthan. “It’s an ear piece called the laung. We crafted one using gold and ruby and looks really pretty in his ears. We made 11 pairs replicating the original such that we have lots of pieces in spare if in case they get lost during the shooting,” mentions Lipakshi.
Debonair and sophisticated, his outfits required well-cut, stylish suits, trousers, shirts and jackets along with chic yet traditional Indian wear all of which is something that Prima Czar has always specialized in. Additionally the brand has also designed wardrobe for Art Malik’s character, Suchi’s father, the Police Commissioner and for K.K. Raina’s character, Karan’s father, Bade Maharaj. The fact that Prima Czar has some of the best fabrics available in the city along with exceptionally talented in-house designers and masters is what has made them the destination store for so many celebrities and designers alike. Their contribution, especially when they were short on time has proved very valuable to the entire Mirzya team.
Recently at the Santa Cruz showroom of men’s couture label Prima Czar, the cast of Rakeysh Mehra’s latest epic Mirzya were present to talk about some of the costumes that were designed by the brand. Anuj Choudhry, who plays Karan, along with Saiyami Kher who plays Suchi in the film were both present along with the Co-founder of the brand, Prakash Arora.
• Apart from the Harshvardhan and Saiyami’s contemporary scenes, it is the folklore sequences which
are getting a lot of attention.
• From romance, the film transcends into action and it is learnt there are many teams which battle against each
other. “Mirza’s (Harshvardhan) tribe is called Mithra, while Sahiba’s (Saiyami’s) is called Hidush. Both the tribes have
been distinguished by their costume’s colours. While Mithra is blue, Hidush is red. Likewise there are many
other tribes like Giza, Jangwa, Torgo and Sumer flaunting different colours
• The tribes are also distinguished by peculiar flags and also tattoos which are on the horses of these tribes.
• In terms of Mirza’s costumes, a lot of natural fibers like leather and jute has been used. “The armour that he wears too is made out of leather. Even Saiyami, the
blouse which she wears is pure leather. And the accessories she wears is made up of threads, ropes and
feathers,” elaborates Niharika.
