Q. Does your organisation intend to upgrade to Windows 10?

N = 301

• Within a year over 60% of customers across all segments expect to have upgraded to Windows 10

• TRA’s view is that xYOD/COIT is challenging the historical view that large Enterprises move more slowly in the adoption of new technology than smaller businesses.

• As Windows 10 moves across the consumer landscape there is a possibility that it will shorten the traditional ‘wait for SP1 update’ that occurred with previous Windows releases

THE DEVICE ENVIRONMENT

Applications and workloads are the next battlegrounds for cloud. Organisations want, but are not well prepared, to move these between cloud services.

TRA asked survey respondents about their current device environment, whether this would change in the next 12 months, and how Windows 10 might influence their investments. The main findings from this section of the survey are highlighted below by device type:

PCs

Smartphones

Tablets

2 in 3 will refresh PC devices within the next 12 months with 46% increasing their total PCs

57% will refresh their smartphone fleet in the next 12 months with 41.5% increasing fleet size

51% will refresh their tablet devices within 12 months and 37.9% will increase their tablet fleet

WINDOWS 10 VIEWS

Applications and workloads are the next battlegrounds for cloud. Organisations want, but are not well prepared, to move these between cloud services.

TRA asked survey respondents to provide a comparative rating of Windows 10 against previous versions of the OS. We also asked whether survey respondents believe Windows 10 will allow their organisation to take advantage of a range of technologies and services. The main results from these questions are:

More than 7 in 10 Australian organisations believe Windows 10 is an improvement over both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1

More than 75% of survey respondents agreed that deploying Windows 10 would be beneficial to support other technology solutions and initiatives. The top three technologies and services that respondents believe Windows 10 will let them take advantage of are: Microsoft Cloud Solutions Windows Apps across all devices Unified Communications and Collaboration tied with

Mobility

Important to the multi-device strategy is that over 75% of respondents agree that Windows 10 is an attractive platform for applications.

PLANS TO DEPLOY ADDITIONAL SOLUTIONS

Applications and workloads are the next battlegrounds for cloud. Organisations want, but are not well prepared, to move these between cloud services.

Survey participants were asked what additional services or technologies they were likely to adopt when they upgrade to Windows 10. The main findings from these questions are:

At least 4 in 10 Australian organisations intend to adopt additional services and technologies within 12 months of adopting Windows 10

Compared with previous OS refreshes or upgrades where roughly one third of survey respondents said they would also adopt Iaas/PaaS or SaaS offerings, there is a stronger appetite to adopt cloud services with Windows 10.

SURVEY DEMOGRAPHICS & BACKGROUND

Applications and workloads are the next battlegrounds for cloud. Organisations want, but are not well prepared, to move these between cloud services.

Microsoft engaged TRA to explore business sentiments and propensity to upgrade to Windows 10 and related solutions.

This summary report reflects the key data findings from an online research survey conducted in May and June, 2015, of 301 Australian organisations.

Respondents were required to be in either an IT decision maker or senior Line of Business (LoB) role with an understanding of both their organisation’s IT operations and the Windows OS.

The demographic breakdown of the survey sample is provided in the chart to the right which details respondent companies by number of employees.

%Key Points

All device types present a strong refresh opportunity within 12 months.

Organisations with 100-249 or 250-499 employees are most likely to refresh PC/Desktop fleet

There is strong demand for a smartphone refresh except with small organisations with 5-24 employees

A tablet refresh is most expected in organisations with 25-99, 250-499 and 1000+ employees

WINDOWS 10 USER INTENT TO ADOPT BY SIZE AND FACTOR

Applications and workloads are the next battlegrounds for cloud. Organisations want, but are not well prepared, to move these between cloud services.

Key Points

At an aggregate level the top factors ranked are: Productivity Improving the security & risk
