Inspiration was drawn from the 1950s, when the concept of destinationtravel became vogue with the help of interstate highways, passengerairplanes, and the picture painted by 1950s Hollywood. This era oftravel was glamorous, exciting, and aspirational.

    Ideation Phase

  • 8/8/2019 Meyer Portfolio Id[1]

    26/30

Just like running shoes, dancing shoes wear most quickly in the places where weighthits and shifts. Some shoes have harder tips that wear away slowly, while others havesofter tips that wear quickly. When the heel corrodes, often it does so unevenly. Theslanting of the heel makes the dancer more prone to injury and poor foot work .

    27/30

In the ideation phase, I was looking to develop a heel made of exposed, anodized aluminum with a removable, double layer, suede heel tip. Thealuminum will be strong, yet light-weight and the suede will protect the oor, wear away slower, and glide more easily than the typical plastic tips. Theforms were derived from references to Calatrava architecture and to the embrace and linkages in salsa turn patterns.
