Ongoing improvements to Kiwanis Park in Menomonee Fallswill include tree memorials to six members of the Kiwanis Clubwho contributed to the clubs mission over the past four decades.

The park is located at the northeast corner of MenomoneeAvenue and Town Hall Road. A dedication ceremony was heldAug. 24 that included a retrospective of the contributions of clubmembers Art Joy, Wally Rousseau, Delbert Erdman, Earl Becker,Paul Schryer and John Deady.

Its been a long time coming, said Randy Newman,

Menomonee Falls Village President and Menomonee FallsKiwanis Club member, at the start of the dedication.

Members of Cub Scout Pack 60 raised the American flag tobegin the program, which was followed by the recitation of thePledge of Allegiance.

At the start of the program, Newman said the club wasformed at St. Marys Church in 1956 by men who wanted tomake a difference in Menomonee Falls and that they have.Along the way, they taught us to have fun and give back to thecommunity.

Newman explained that the club purchased land in 1963that was near Maple and Christman roads with plans for adevelopment in the future. That land was transferred over the vil-lage in 1978 for park use. However, the village moved southand the club asked to swap land and adopt what had beenknown as Village Green Park.

At the time the Kiwanis adopted the new park setting, therehad been a ball diamond on the land and it also had been usedas an ice skating rink in winter. Starting with memorials from the

Art Joy and Wally Rousseau families, Kiwanis members began to

fix up the park starting in 2005.Members then spoke of the late members whose memorials

will be included at the park. Neal Sykora recalled that Art Joyjoined in the early 1970s and was sponsored by WallyRousseau.

Art was a really important part of our club in the 70s,Sykora said. He was very active with the club. He was trulydedicated with the club and was involved in all of our events.

The Hamilton School District announcedthe establishment of the Hamilton EducationMarjorie Wrezic Scholarship program Aug.

29.The scholarships will be in the amount of

$4,000 and will begin in the spring of 2014.Approximately 50 scholarships are likely to begranted annually, and they can be renewedfor a second year. The scholarships will go tostudents who plan to enroll as a full-time col-lege student and who have a demonstratedfinancial need. Students must have a 3.5grade point average, be an American citizen

and demonstrate community service throughextracurricular activities, work, religious or vol-unteer activities.

This is the largest scholarship program inour schools history, Hamilton School DistrictSuperintendent Kathleen Cooke said during abreakfast and recognition ceremony for districtemployees.

The scholarship was created through theefforts of Wrezic, the grandmother of twoHamilton High School graduates and a stu-dent currently attending the high school. In astatement issued by the district, Wrezic indicat-ed she was impressed by the quality of educa-tion provided to her grandchildren and want-ed to honor the memory of her husband, RalphWrezic.

Many of you sitting in this room haveimpacted the lives of my grandchildren and Ihope that the children who do not have the

advantages of others will take this opportunityto succeed, Wrezic said in a statement readby Cooke.

Wrezic then spoke to all district staff pres-ent, saying it has been her goal to create toscholarship fund for several years. Shethanked her daughter and son-in-law alongwith Cooke and other district staff for under-taking the work to create the scholarship.

It has taken many months to put thistogether. Now I ask all of you to continue yourgood work, to teach, inspire and encourageyour students to learn, Wrezic said. Theirsuccess is your success. You give back the lifeevery day, sometimes without knowing it.Hopefully, this scholarship will help some to

The Menomonee Falls Village Boardapproved two motions Sept. 3 that could allowfor the creation of a subdivision on the eastside of Town Line Road and south of the UnionPacific Railroad train tracks.

The board approved a motion to amendsewer service area map to include 85 devel-opable acres in the village of MenomoneeFalls sanitary sewer service area which isserved by the Sussex Wastewater TreatmentPlant. Village Director of Engineering ServicesTom Hoffman said that sanitary sewer servicehas to be made available for any development

to occur. Hoffman said the land previouslywas not in any sanitary sewer service district.Trustee Sharon Ellis asked if a planned sub-

division on this property would negativelyimpact areas south of the site which had expe-rienced flooding in recent years. Hoffman saidthe area for the subdivision is on higher groundwhile the land south were flooding occurred isalong Town Line Road.

Hoffman said the village responded toflooding the subdivision south of the currentsite by increasing drainage capacity and rais-ing the roads in the Silver Meadows subdivi-sion.

Hoffman and Bill Stauber, chief land useplanner for the Southeast Wisconsin RegionalPlan Commission (SEWRPC) confirmed that

John Rousseau recalled that when he wasounger he would regularly go to the airport

Member Jim Rafferty recalled that Delbertdman was part owner of Wisconsin Gasket.dman joined in the 1970s and worked one home show, a Kiwanis carnival, the bingovent, grand prix, and a sponsored youth pic-c. Rafferty noted that Erdman also attendede senior picnic at Rotary Park in the summer.

Rafferty recalled how Erdman taughther members to play pooch and alsomembered the bingo fundraisers whereembers were playing cards afterwards.

al tree, Rafferty said.Erdman died in February 1996. Rafferty

dded that I was glad to call him a friend.In speaking about Earl Becker, Neal

ykora noted that Becker joined in 1997 aftereing a member of another Kiwanis club andas a regular at the Falls club. Becker was 81ears old at the time he joined the Falls

Kiwanis Club and was a member of the clubfor a few years.

Earl was a member of our club for ashort time but he contributed a lot to our

club, Sykora said. We appreciate his serv-ice.

Joe Bourassa recalled the Becker alwayshad a smile on his face and he was just agreat gentleman.

Dan Hart said it was an honor to com-memorate the six club members. In speakingabout Paul Schryer, he recalled he went to St.Marys school along with Schryers children.When Hart joined Kiwanis in 1973, he got toknow Paul Schryer.

Just a hard-working, nice guy salt of theearth type of person, Hart said.

Schryer was a 1956 Falls Kiwanis Clubcharter member. Schryer died last year.

He was a great guy to everybody. Imjust so proud to meet him and know him, Hartsaid. I know his children were very proud ofhim, too.

In speaking about John Deady, NealSykora noted that Deady came to the Fallsclub in 1997 and he got involved in every-thing right off the bat.

Sykora noted that Deady was a low keyperson who had perfect attendance at clubmeetings for several years. Sykora said thatDeady influenced several of the youngermembers of the club.

His smile and soft-spoken attitude madehim a welcome member at all of our meet-ings, Sykora said.

Sykora also recalled that Deady makedulcimers by hand and he and his wife Bettyperformed the dulcimers at a Christmas meet-ing. Jerry Bannerman recalled that Deadywas instrumental in organizing team captainsfor a hole-in-one tournament the club held for10 years.

When I first joined the club he made mefeel welcome, Bannerman said of Deady.

Newman, speaking as the village presi-dent, thanked Kiwanis for the efforts in help-ing reinvigorate the club.

We look forward to the continued contri-bution of the Kiwanis Club to expand this parkand make it better, Newman said.

Rafferty, chairman of the Kiwanis commit-tee overseeing the park improvements,explained that the club will improve the treememorials while future plans included the vil-lage removing street parking and installing aparking lot and a bridge that will go over thestream at the park.

Its not going to stop, Rafferty said ofthe park improvements.
