CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE

Greetings to each and every one of you. I hope now that we are four months into 2021, you are all safe, well, and maybe even getting back to some normalcy in life. This year we celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT). I would like to recognize the 5,727 members that the NRRPT supports. We are very close to meeting the amazing milestone of having 6,000 registrants. I am both humbled and honored to serve the Registry as the Chairman of the Board of Directors. The objective of the Registry is to encourage and promote the education and training of Radiation Protection Technologists and, by so doing, promote and advance the science of Health Physics. Please take the time to seek opportunities to improve your knowledge and abilities in your field of expertise while encouraging others to pursue opportunities to do the same. One very good way to increase your knowledge is to mentor someone who is preparing to sit for the NRRPT exam. As members, this Registry belongs to you. If you are interested in becoming more involved with the Board or Panel, or if you have comments, questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me or any Board member. If you have some free time, how about doing some professional enrichment? You could write and submit some new questions for the exam bank or write an article for the newsletter. Inside this handbook there is a listing of registered practitioners, supporters and retired members along with members of the Board and Panel. Also, you will find a list of the NRRPT corporate sponsors, a list of all the various award recipients and the bylaws. I hope that you can use this handbook as a reference or to look up some old friends to see how they are doing. I want to thank you all for your continued support. Best Regards,

Rick Rasmussen NRRPT, Chairman of the Board

GENERAL INFORMATION OBJECTIVE The objective of the Registry is to encourage and promote the education and training of Radiation Protection Technologists and, by doing so, promote and advance the science of Health Physics. MEMBERSHIP Registered Practitioners are persons who have satisfied their registration maintenance requirements or who have not yet come to the conclusion of their first cycle. Practitioners actively support the NRRPT by paying an annual sustaining fee. Registered Supporters are members that pay annual dues but do not maintain registration requirements; supporters are also Fellow, Emeritus and/or Retired members. Retired are members who have retired from employment. Fellow is a status that has been awarded to certain registered individuals in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the Registry. Member Emeritus are retired members who have applied for emeritus status and been accepted by the NRRPT Board of Directors. REGISTRATION MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

The NRRPT Registration Maintenance Program is designed to help assure that Registered Radiation Protection Technologists (RRPTs) continue to maintain their professional qualification. The program requires RRPTs to participate in professional development activities after their initial registration, and it monitors those activities on a periodic basis. Meeting the requirements of the program is mandatory to maintain active registration. In addition, the RRPT must maintain membership in the Registry for the entire maintenance cycle. The Registration Maintenance Program began January 1, 1999 and requires 20 points to be earned in each five-year cycle. The cycle begins and ends on a calendar year basis, i.e., begins January 1 of the first year of the cycle and ends December 31 of the last year of the cycle. All points must be earned within the cycle to which they apply. For RRPTs registered on or before January 1, 1999, the first cycle will begin on that date. The first cycle for those registered after January 1, 1999, will begin on January 1 of the year following registration. If you have comments or questions please contact Mark Bayless, Continuing Education Committee Chairman at [email protected]. COLLEGE CREDITS The American Council on Education’s College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT) has evaluated and recommended college credit for 1 of the NRRPT courses. The American Council on Education, the major coordinating body for all the nation's higher education institutions, seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy, research, and program initiatives. ACE CREDIT connects workplace learning with colleges and universities by helping adults gain access to academic credit at colleges and universities for formal courses and examinations taken in the workplace or other settings outside traditional higher education. For more than 30 years, colleges and universities have trusted ACE CREDIT to provide reliable course equivalency information to facilitate their decisions to award academic credit. For more information, visit the ACE CREDIT website http://www.acenet.edu/acecredit.

Since 2016, Fluor Idaho, LLC has managed cleanup operations at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) Site under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy. Our success is built on our core values of safety, integrity, teamwork, and excellence.

The cleanup mission at the INL Site focuses on addressing the key elements of the Idaho Cleanup Project: dispositioning transuranic waste, spent nuclear fuel, and high-level radioactive waste in accordance with national and state regulatory agreements. Specific projects include:

• The Advanced Mixed Waste Treatment Project, tasked with retrieving and processing 65,000 cubic meters of above-ground stored transuranic waste and shipping the material to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in New Mexico for permanent disposal.

• The Accelerated Retrieval Project, which is retrieving targeted transuranic and hazardous waste from 5.69 acres of an unlined, Cold War-era landfill, processing the waste, and dispositioning it offsite.

• Managing spent nuclear fuel including transferring it from wet to dry storage. • The Calcine Retrieval Project, responsible for developing a retrieval technology

to remove 4,400 cubic meters of a dry, granular radioactive waste from six storage bins.

• The Integrated Waste Treatment Unit Project, which is commissioning and operating a steam reforming facility to convert 900,000 gallons of liquid radioactive waste to a dry, granular solid.

• The Environmental Restoration Program, which is responsible for ongoing institutional controls such as air and groundwater monitoring, groundwater treatment, and other environmental protection measures.

Fluor Idaho supports and partners with DOE, regulators, oversight agencies, our employees, our subcontractors and our community to provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective project performance.

laminates to the nuclear industry. These products are ideal for containment during outages, construction, maintenance and decommissioning projects. Strong, yet flexible, lightweight and easily handled,

Griffolyn® products are highly resistant to tears and have an exceptional outdoor service life.

Griffolyn® can be produced with specialized properties including fire retardancy (NFPA 701) and low contamination for safety applications around critical materials or work areas. Performance features such

as corrosion inhibition and anti-static properties are also available for sensitive equipment. Products range in weight, thickness and special composites, and are ideal for:

• Floor covers • Custom box liners • Containment enclosures • Bags • Tubing • Outdoor/Indoor storage • Shipping covers for contaminated equipment • Secondary containment systems

• Decontamination pads • Underslab vapor retarders for critical applications • Feed water heaters/rotor covers • Soft-sided packaging for surface contaminated objects • FME barriers

The advantages of using Griffolyn® containment products for new plant construction and maintenance

projects are vast but the immediate recognized benefit is the reduction in the costs associated with improving project schedules. Griffolyn® products reduce the volume of radwaste, which in turn lowers
